A patient's history is as important as their symptoms. It's what helps us decide if heartburn's a heart attack, if a headache's a tumor. Sometimes patients will try to rewrite their own histories. They'll claim they don't smoke or forget to mention certain drugs, which in surgery can be the kiss of death.
The next day, Mallory Shepherd and Alex Karev stopped at Meredith Grey's house before their shift started at the hospital. By the time they got to the front steps, they were already bickering about the secret George O'Malley was having her keep.
"I'm just saying, Mal, you shouldn't let the guilt of what Bambi did eat you alive," Alex reminded her as they got to the doorstep. "You didn't make him do it."
"But he told me," Mallory retorted with a shake of her head. "Now I know about it. His dirty little secret."
"Wanna know how you solve that?" Alex asked, turning to look her in the eye. "You tell Callie."
"I can't do that."
We can ignore it all we want.
When they knocked on the door, Meredith came right out and immediately shut the door behind her. She forced a smile as she turned to face them, but Mallory's brows furrowed as she noticed how tense she was.
Mallory raised a brow and asked. "What's with you?"
"Susan is inside my house right now," Meredith explained, letting out a deep breath. "She's doing motherly things, and honestly, it's weird. I'm uncomfortable."
"That's what mothers do, Mer," Mallory pointed out with a laugh. "When I first got my own place, Nancy and Mom came over with groceries, cleaning supplies, hell, they even cooked me dinner. That's what they do."
"Okay, sure," Meredith sighed. "But I hardly know her."
Alex chuckled as he told her. "This seems like your chance to get to know her."
"Yeah, whatever."
But our history, eventually, always comes back to haunt us.
Meredith brought them inside to her kitchen, where Susan Grey and Derek Shepherd stood at the counter talking. When they walked in, Derek waved at them. "Good morning."
His sister nodded back in response, forcing a smile. "Morning. You didn't mention he was here, too."
"Well, I'm sure she assumed it was a natural assumption," Derek spoke up as he held out the coffee pot. "You guys want coffee?"
