As interns, we know what we want: to become surgeons.
And will do anything to get there...
The next night, all six interns gathered at Preston Burke and Cristina Yang's apartment to prepare for their intern exams. They took turns asking the questions and being the person in the chair answering them; everyone was anxious for their turn.
Alex Karev held a flashcard as he questioned Meredith Grey. "What are the signs of central line infection?"
"Puss," she started to list them off. "Redness and fever."
Suffer through killer exams, endure 100-hour weeks, and stand for hours on end in operating rooms. You name it, we'll do it.
He nodded, confirming she had gotten it right before asking next. "What is Kahn's syndrome?"
"Wait, wait." Meredith stood up from her chair as she thought about the answer. "I know this."
"Tick-tock, dude," Izzie pointed to her pretend watch on her wrist. "Come on."
"It's, oh shit," Meredith cursed as she struggled to think of it. "It's on the tip of my tongue."
George chuckled, taking a sip from his drink as he asked. "Cracking under pressure?"
Meredith shook her head, holding up her finger to stop anyone from talking further. But no matter how hard she tried, she couldn't think of it. "No! Um, hypocortolis— Cortolism—"
"Primary Hyperaldosteronism," Cristina answered for her, pumping her fist. "Out of the seat. My turn."
"No," Izzie's brows furrowed. "It's my turn."
"No, it's not."
Mallory Shepherd sat with George O'Malley on the couch, sipping on a mixed drink as she watched their friends get excited. "Something deep down inside tells me I'm gonna pass. Or maybe that's just the drink talking."
"That's because you grew up around doctors," George scoffed as he narrowed his eyes. "Consider yourself lucky."
"Don't worry, Georgie," Mallory ruffled his hair. "I'll share my luck."
Before Cristina Yang even had a chance to get prepared for her question, Burke walked back into the living room with cake in his hand. His fiancée sighed. "Oh, honey, I—"
"Try this one," Burke told her, holding out a fork. "White sponge with vanilla butter cream."
"Okay, yeah," Cristina turned to him, with her normal blunt tone. "I'm trying to study for the most important test of my intern career. I don't have time for wedding cake."
