She never slows down, she doesn't know why but she knows that when she's all alone feels like it's all coming down. She won't turn around, she shadows are long and she feels if she cries that first tear the tears won't stop raining down.
"Connie please slow down" Jacob said she followed her out of the ED into the pouring rain.
Connie didn't listen and carried on walking, unsure of where she was going but she didn't care. She needed to get away from there.
"Connie!" Jacob shouted again.
She turned around reluctantly, the tears falling down her face, "leave me alone Jacob!" she shouted then carried on walking away.
He sped up and and took her hand, pulling her to him, both of them becoming drenched.
So stand in the rain, stand your ground, stand up when it's all crashing down. You stand through pain, you won't drown, and one days what's lost can be found. You stand in the rain.
"Let me go, please" she cried.
Jacob shook his head and stroked her cheek gently, "I can't do that sweetcheeks, please just talk to me" he said softly.
"What do you expect me to say? I lost our baby, there's nothing more too say" she said.
"But we can get through it Con, I know it hurts, I'm hurting too but we can do this together. We can try again, when you're ready but I need you to know this was not your fault" Jacob told her.
"But it was! I should of listened to you, I should of kept my distance but instead I put my job first, as always, and treated the patient" she cried before pulling away and walking quicker.
She won't make a sound, alone in this fight with herself and the fears whispering if she stands she'll fall down.
She wants to be found, the only way out is through everything she's running from, wants to give up and lie down.
Jacob followed her and managed to walk in front of her, stopping her in her tracks.
He pulled her into his arms and she didn't say a word, only sobbed into his shoulder as she clung on to him for dear life.
"Connie you weren't treating him at the time it happened! The prison guard let him go and he ran away, knocking you over which is not you fault! It could of happened to anyone" Jacob said.
"But it didn't! It happened to me, to us! Maybe I'm just not meant to be a mother again!" she sobbed.
"Oh sweetcheeks that's not true, you are meant to be one and you will be if it's what you want. Please come back inside, we're soaking" he told her.
So stand in the rain, stand you ground, stand up when it's all crashing down. You stand through the pain you won't drown and one day what's lost can be found. You stand in the rain.
"I love you" Connie said as she looked at him.
Jacob smiled sadly, "I love you too" he said before Connie pressed her lips to his.
The kiss was gentle but passionate and full of love, his hands on her waist, hers looped around his neck as the rain water clashed with her tears.
So stand in the rain, stand your ground. Stand up when it's all crashing down, you stand through the pain you won't drown and one day what's lost can be found. You stand through the rain.
"Take me home, please" she whispered as she pulled away.
Jacob nodded and slowly they began to walk towards her car, their fingers entwined never wanting to break apart.
