Jacob sat by Amira's bed side, she looked so tiny lying in the hospital bed, with the sound of her heart monitor beeping steadily and the countless wires attached to her.
He held onto her hand gently, just like he had been for the past few hours, he hadn't said a word to anyone else that had came in, only whispering words of comfort to his daughter.
It was only when Jac Naylor entered ITU, that Jacob stood from his seat, finally letting go of Amira's hand.
"Is she... is she dead?" he asked, tears threatening to fall again.
Jac stepped forwards towards Jacob, very uncharacteristically embracing him in a hug, "she's going to be just fine" she told him.
"Thank you, thank you so much" Jacob cried, emotion taking over him, "can I see her?" he asked.
Jac stepped back and nodded, "they're going to bring her down here for tonight, next to Amira, then put them in a room together tomorrow. I've arranged for a bed to be brought down so you can stay with them" she explained.
Jacob nodded, "thank you" he said again, as the doors opened and Connie was wheeled into ITU.
Elle placed a hand on his shoulder "I'll give you some time with your girls, call me if you need anything" she told him.
"Thank you" he smiled gratefully.
"Wait Elle, can you do me a favour?" he asked before she walked away.
"Sure what is it?" Elle replied.
"In the back of my locker, there's a red box. I bought it before she left, I never got round to asking and then she was gone. I'm not going to let that happen again. Could you get it for me?" Jacob said.
Elle nodded knowingly, "of course, I'll be back up soon" she said before leaving him with Connie and Amira.
Jacob sat down on the chair between Connie and Amira's beds, holding onto a hand from both of them.
He looked towards Amira, hearing a slight groan, "Amira?" he asked gently.
"Mumma?" she whined, her eyes still closed, reaching out her other arm in an attempt to find Connie.
"Mummy's sleeping princess, you just lie still" Jacob whispered.
"Mumma" she whined again, this time opening her eyes as the tears began to fall, "mumma" she started to cry.
Jacob stood up into view, allowing her to see his face, "shh it's okay, she's sleeping but she's right here next to you" he reassured her.
Amira studied his face, her tears soon stopping as she began to recognise the man from the photographs around her home, "daddy?" she questioned, reaching for him.
Jacob smiled, "yes sweetheart, I'm your daddy. I'm gonna look after you and mummy" he told her.
Amira smiled gently, reaching for his hand and gripping his pinky finger tightly as he sat back down between the two of them.
He continued to sit with them, Amira falling back to sleep, until Elle returned with the box he had asked for.
"Amira woke up for a little while, she's confused but she recognised me" Jacob told her with a smile as Elle placed the box on the arm of the chair he was sat in.
"That's great Jacob" she replied, "she's strong like you and Connie, they're both gonna be just fine because they've got you to look after them" she added.
Jacob nodded, then looked towards Connie's bed as he felt her squeeze his hand.
She mumbled unintentionally as she opened her eyes, allowing them to adjust to the light of the ITU.
"Sweetcheeks?" he whispered softly, causing her to turn her heard to look to him and Amira.
"Jacob" she groaned, "is Amira okay?" she asked.
"She's doing just fine sweetcheeks, she woke up earlier, she's tired but she's okay" he replied.
"I'll leave you to it, I hope you're feeling better soon Connie" Elle said before patting Jacob on the shoulder and walking out.
Jacob let go of Amira's hand as she slept, and brushed the hair back off Connie's face, "everything I said before you went to theatre, I meant it" he told her, "I want us to be a family" he added.
Connie smiled, "so do I Jacob" she replied.
He picked up the red box off the side of the chair, "I bought it before you left, I could never bring myself to sell it or get rid of it" he said as he opened it, revealing a beautiful diamond ring.
Tears sprung to Connie's eyes as Jacob continued to speak, "I don't want to lose you again, I want to make you my wife, when you and Amira are better we can have our perfect wedding. I love you Connie, I've never stopped. Will you marry me?" he asked her.
"Yes" Connie gasped, allowing the tears to fall down her cheeks, "of course I will" she told him.
Jacob smiled, taking the ring from the box and placing it onto her finger before leaning down to kiss her lips gently, "thank you, for holding on, for fighting. I couldn't lose you again" he told her.
