"Is there anyone you'd like me to call? Father?" Connie asked the pregnant woman lying in the bed.

The woman shook her head, "one night stand, pub on the corner actually, haven't seen him since. He was good looking though so I'm hoping for a cute baby" she laughed with a grimace as another contraction hit.

Connie nodded, "now you've dilated fully so start pushing when you need to" she told her.

"How far along are you?" The woman asked as she guestered to Connie's bump.

"Six months, a little boy" she smiled as she checked her obs.

"Well at least you've got an engagement ring on your finger" she replied before crying out in pain.

"Push now Melissa" Connie encouraged.

Melissa screamed and pushed hard, until finally her daughters cries filled the room.
"Here's your little girl" Connie grinned as she cut the chord and wrapped her up.

"No, she can't be, it must be a mistake" Melissa said in confusion as she looked at her daughter.

"I'm sorry if this wasn't what you were hoping for, had you been told you were having a boy?" Connie asked.

"I knew I was having a girl, but this can't be her, I don't mean to sound rude or racist in anyway, but her skin should be dark, like the man I slept with" Melissa replied.

"Sorry, but this is your daughter. The dates must have been wrong, she's someone else's" Connie told her, just as the curtains opened.

"Sorry to interrupt" Jacob started.

"What the hell are you doing here? Who told you? How did you find out?" Melissa shouted.

Jacob's eyes widened as he looked towards the baby in Melissa's arms, then back up at Melissa's face, breathing a sigh of relief knowing that the baby wasn't his.
He ignored her comment and looked towards a confused Connie, "I'm going to get Grace from Audrey's, said I'd get her a McDonald's" he told her.

"Aren't you going to answer my question? How did you know I was pregnant? It turns out it's not actually your baby anyway, but how did you know? It was a one night stand then you kicked me out of bed" Melissa said to Jacob.

Jacob's heart sank, as did Connie's, "so you're the skank who slept with my fiancée" she said calmly as she pulled off her gloves.

Jacob looked at Connie in confusion, "you knew?" he asked her.

"Yes. Charlie told me" she replied simply.

"And how did Charlie know?" he asked.

"Elle. And before you have a go at her, she thought you'd told me, and by that assumed that Charlie would know since I tell him everything" Connie said.

"How long?" he asked nervously.

"The day you told Elle. It's exactly why I kept cutting you off when you said you had something to tell me. Jacob I knew it was a mistake, I knew you regretted it and I wasn't going to lose you, because we never really had each other at that moment in time anyway. Everything was messed up and I understand you were lonely. I'm not at all condoning what you've done and part of me did wish that you'd tried harder to tell me but I've come to terms with it. I'm pregnant with our child, we are engaged, Grace is getting better everyday, we are moving on" Connie spoke as she cupped his cheek before placing a soft kiss on his lips.

Jacob held her close to him, a stray tear rolling down his cheek, "I love you" he whispered.

"I love you too" Connie replied as she stepped back slowly then looked to Melissa, "I'll get you another doctor. And you're lucky that wasn't his baby, or I'd have given you a morphine overdose myself. Stick to single men from now on" she glared.
