The Dark Hour

I was walking around. I knew there were angels watching me but I didn't care. I was walking towards the training field when I heard a shout. I ran towards the sound and I tried to stop when someone ran out in front of me but I crashed into them. I quickly got up and froze.

"Seto." He looked up at me, then quickly got up and ran.

"Hey where did he go!?" A small group ran around the corner and looked at me. "Hey you, did you see a kid run past here?" I shrugged.

"What's it to ya?" I asked boredly.

"He's not talking Jace, let's just go find him ourselves," One sighed.

"No wait, he was in that group that Michael brought in." Their leader I guess, looked me over.

"Yeah, he's too scruffy looking to be one of us."

"What does that mean?" I asked.

"It means you look like a hobo. What even are you supposed to be?" He asked mockingly. I growled then I turned into him.

"Oh I don't know, would I appeal more to you if I was a stuck up snob?" He got angry.

"Hey knock that off!"

"Make me," I said sticking my tongue out at him.

"Get him!" They ran at me and I quickly melted into the shadows. I appeared behind them then I ran. I heard them running after me and I tried to run faster. I knew they were catching up to me and I was trying to brace myself when someone wrapped their arms around me and I was flying upwards. I looked up and I sighed, Seto. We flew up into the rafters and Seto set me down before he sat down besides me. I hung onto a support beam and sighed.

"Thanks, I'm really not that fast," I said softly. Seto sighed and nodded.

"Me either, at least on foot." I nodded and relaxed a bit. They were looking for me but they didn't think to look up.

"So what is up with these guys?" I asked. "They are they after you?" Seto looked down and sighed.

"I'm not like most angels," He said softly. "I was human before. I died and Michael decided that I was worthy enough to become one of his angels. The angels that were born angels think that humans that become angels are weaker than they are. That they're not as good as they are."

"Well that's stupid." Seto looked at me surprised.

"What?"

"Well you earned the right to be here, they were just born into the role. If anything you're even better than them." Seto snickered then he started giggling.

"I never saw it that way."

"Well it's because you have only been told one side of the story. Sometimes what other people say just doesn't matter, because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind."

"You know, you kinda sound like Michael," Seto smiled. I blushed a bit.

"It's just something I read from a book."

"I didn't mean it as an insult," Seto said quickly.

"I know," I smiled. Seto sighed and smiled a little bit.

"I um I heard you talking to them," He said softly.

"You did?" He nodded then giggled.

"It was kinda funny how you just threw his words back at him." I smiled.

"Yeah, if he's going to judge me on my appearance I'll judge him by his attitude. Cause who cares what you look like? I really think actions speak louder than words."

"Yeah?" Seto asked. I nodded.

"Yeah." I never noticed how much of a kid Seto was. Sure he is a kid but I really never saw him act like one. It was kinda cute.

We waited up there until they got tired of looking for us then we got down and ran back to my room. I had my own room since Skyla was with Ryan in his room.

"So what do you want to do?" I asked as I got a cup of chocolate milk. Seto shrugged.

"I'm not sure. We talked about me but I kinda want to know about you."

"What about me?" I asked putting the milk away.

"Well you're a fallen angel right?"

"Yeah."

"Don't you have wings?" I froze up a bit then I heard something shatter. "Ty!" I blinked and looked at my hand. I broke the cup. Seto ran over to me and looked at my hand. I was bleeding.

"I'll go get Ryan."

"No! I mean I don't need Ryan, I can heal by myself."

"How?" I dimmed the lights down until the shadows covered my hand. Seto watched with wide eyes as my hand turned black then slowly faded back to my skin color.

"Woah." I nodded.

"It's um shadow magic. I was born with it, so I could fight in the dark and be completely ok. I guess." Seto nodded.

"Yeah, it's actually kinda cool."

"Really?" I asked surprised.

"Yeah, do you think you could use shadows as armor? Or like a weapon you could hold?"

"I-I've never tried that. I can grab shadows and move them around and that moves the object their tied to."

"That's awesome!" Seto smiled. He cleared his throat and tried to recompose himself but I still saw this shimmer in his eyes.

"Yeah, I can travel between shadows but you already know about that."

"Yeah, but it's still pretty cool. I saw you shadow travel with Lalna."

"Yeah, I've trained myself to do that. It used to take a lot out of me but I'm getting better with it."

"Well that's good." I smiled then I noticed how close he was. Before I could do anything someone knocked on the door.

"Oh hold on!" I called out. I turned to lights back up and ran to the door. "Who is it!?"

"It's Ryan." I opened the door.

"Hey um what do you need?" I asked trying to play it cool.

"Uh I'm trying to find Axel, he isn't in his room."

"Ok um I haven't seen him. Maybe Astrid knows where he is," I said shifting on my feet.

"No cause she's with Allison cause of this." He said handing a piece of paper over. I looked at it then at him.

"Are you playing with me or-"

"No we ran the test twice and it came back positive."

"What came back positive?" Seto asked. I handed him the paper and he read through it.

"Oh."

"Um have you asked anyone else if they've seen Axel?" I asked.

"No cause Skyla was with me and Allison most of the time with Astrid."

"What about Ridge and Lalna? Maybe they've seen him."

"I don't really want to bother them but I'll ask." I nodded.

"Ok, if we see him I'll send him to your room. See you later Ryan," I said quickly. I shut the door and sighed.

"Ty, are you ok?" Seto asked curiously. I nodded.

"Yeah, I'm fine."

"You sure?"

"Yeah, just a bit tired I guess."

"Oh, I'll leave so-"

"No, I mean you don't have to leave. You can just hang out in here if you want to. I'll just be in the bedroom sleeping and I'm kind of a heavy sleeper." He nodded.

"Ok, I guess I could stay here for a bit. I have nothing else to do." I smiled and sighed.

"I um I'll be in the bedroom if you need me," I said quickly walking away. What was going on with me?
