Luo Jinxiao touched her own hand, a deep smile playing on her lips.

Chopping wood was indeed a challenging task, and without the aid of spiritual power, it became even more daunting. She swung a borrowed axe at the tree trunk repeatedly. Though she had already felled a few trees, she was far from reaching the required punishment quota.

Unbeknownst to her, it was already noon. The sun hung high overhead, and despite the canopy of thick leaves providing some shade, it was still far from cool. Soon, she was drenched in sweat, panting for breath. She dropped the axe, squinting up at the sky and exhaling a hot breath.

"Damn this weather, how is it so hot?" she muttered, using her sleeve to wipe her face, smudging her once fair skin with grime.

"Sister!" A deliberately lowered call came from the woods. Luo Jinxiao looked over to see Luo Ning, dust-covered, emerging from the underbrush.

"I'm here to help you," she whispered, tiptoeing over and taking the axe from Luo Jinxiao's hands.

Luo Jinxiao, still unaccustomed to having a sister, gave an awkward smile and thanked her.

Luo Ning seemed unfazed by her aloofness, smiling brightly at the word of thanks, her eyes curving into crescents. She patted her chest, "I can use spiritual power, don't worry. It's hot today, no one will be watching you."

With that, she eagerly raised her hand, and the axe, under the control of her spiritual power, flew into the air, striking the tree trunk. The tree, which Luo Jinxiao had struggled with for ages, cracked and fell with a loud crash.

Luo Jinxiao stepped back, avoiding the falling dust and leaves, then looked at Luo Ning, surprised that while her own body was deemed useless, her sister seemed quite capable.

"I was away training for several days, and when I returned, I heard about what happened to you from our parents. If I hadn't been away, I could have protected you," Luo Ning said, her voice growing somber. Luo Jinxiao turned to see her controlling the axe while tears streamed down her face.

Her sister seemed to have the heart of a young girl, crying freely, tears flowing like a broken string of pearls, yet her hands never stopped working, quickly bringing down more trees.

Watching her cry stirred something in Luo Jinxiao's heart, leaving her somewhat at a loss. She scratched her head and finally said, "I'm fine, don't cry."

Luo Ning turned, wiping her tears with a smile. "Don't worry, now that you're in the Wuhui Sect too, our family has two disciples there. With me around, no one will dare bully you again!"

Hearing this, warmth filled Luo Jinxiao's eyes. This was the second time today someone had promised to protect her.

Though she didn't need it, her heart felt as though it was basking in warm sunlight.

She suddenly thought of the demoness, her heart stirring before a touch of disappointment set in. She assumed that Qu Weiyin's promise to protect her was just a joke. Someone like her would hardly take it to heart.

Meanwhile, a woman in red stood on a concealed cliff several meters away.

She carried a crimson sword on her back, deeper in color than her robe, which added to her graceful yet sharp demeanor. From afar, she was the epitome of elegance, with her long black hair flowing in the wind, a figure as ethereal as a fairy.
