Luo JinXiao was unsure of what had happened. Seeing Qu WeiYin coughing so violently, she hurried forward to pat her back, only to be blocked by Qu WeiYin’s hand.

"What did you say?" Qu WeiYin asked, covering her face with one hand, her eyes watering from the cough.

Luo JinXiao was momentarily at a loss for words. She pointed towards the direction of her room and said awkwardly, "Well, they were too noisy, and I couldn’t sleep."

She held her bedding, her expression sincere.

Realizing she had misunderstood, Qu WeiYin felt increasingly embarrassed. Without much thought, she put her hand down, feigning indifference as she picked up the book she had tossed aside and nodded.

Luo JinXiao hadn't expected Qu WeiYin to agree so readily. Overjoyed, she quickly entered the room, spread out her bedding, and lay down in one swift motion.

"Little Martial Aunt’s room is indeed much larger and more elegantly decorated than ours. It’s been so long since I’ve shared a bed with anyone; I’m really not used to it," Luo JinXiao said as she adjusted her bedding, settling it comfortably over her abdomen.

"I remember the Luo family didn’t treat you well," Qu WeiYin remarked casually, turning a page in her book.

Luo JinXiao’s hands paused briefly before she resumed tidying her clothes, chuckling lightly. "No matter how bad it was, I still had a bed."

Qu WeiYin fell silent, and Luo JinXiao, observing her, was relieved she didn’t pursue the topic further, unsure how she would have answered if she had.

The room grew quiet. The flickering oil lamp cast a soft glow, and the sound of pages turning was the only noise, lulling Luo JinXiao into a drowsy state. It wasn’t long before she drifted into sleep.

A subtle floral scent filled the room, inexplicably comforting.

After a while, Qu WeiYin finished her book and looked up to find Luo JinXiao fast asleep, her blanket kicked off to one side.

Qu WeiYin set the book down, her fingers twitching slightly as she used her spiritual energy to cover Luo JinXiao with the blanket again.

Soon enough, Luo JinXiao kicked it off again.

Unable to stand it any longer, Qu WeiYin lifted her wrist, and the blanket extended, wrapping Luo JinXiao into a snug cocoon.

Finally, peace.

Qu WeiYin walked to Luo JinXiao’s side, hesitated for a moment, then turned away. Her red skirt swept gracefully around her ankles, tracing a semicircle on the floor.

Before her, a soft golden light stretched out. She lay down on it as if it were a bed, floating in mid-air.

She turned her head to look at Luo JinXiao’s profile. Luo JinXiao was fast asleep, her eyes closed, long lashes casting shadows on her cheeks, her lips a soft red. Even in rest, she was quite pretty.

It was hard to imagine what this child would look like once she fully grew into a woman.

Qu WeiYin found herself grateful that she was alive in this lifetime; it would have been a regret otherwise.
