"Would the three of you like any other girls?" the madam called out.
Luo JinXiao quickly waved her hand to decline.
The madam watched them ascend the stairs, pocketing the silver as she muttered about the audacity of today's youth.
Luo JinXiao followed Qu WeiYin upstairs. The second floor consisted of private rooms. It was still early, so most doors were open, though a few were closed, shadows moving behind them.
QiongQi sniffed at each door until stopping at the last one, her expression changing as she tugged at Luo JinXiao's sleeve.
Realizing they had found something unusual inside, Luo JinXiao exchanged a glance with Qu WeiYin. Seeing Qu WeiYin nod, she knocked on the door.
After a long moment, it opened a crack, revealing an eye-an eerie gray under the firelight.
"Who is it?" The voice was low, tinged with a seductive quality, making it hard to discern gender.
Just as Luo JinXiao was about to speak, Qu WeiYin reached out, gripping the wooden door. The person behind it tried to close it, but it was as if nailed in place, unmoving.
The person glared at Qu WeiYin, as if wanting to devour her, but then their expression shifted.
Unfazed, Qu WeiYin pushed the door open and stepped inside. The person stumbled back, unable to resist.
In a flash, there was a glint of silver. Luo JinXiao's eyes widened, but before she could react, Qu WeiYin swiftly pinned the attacker to the wall.
Her slender fingers clamped around their throat with calm strength, enough to kill with a squeeze.
"Luo JinXiao, shut the door," Qu WeiYin said, her phoenix eyes lazily lifting to the struggling face.
Luo JinXiao carefully bolted the door.
The person continued to struggle, but it was futile. At that moment, the androgynous voice from earlier spoke again, the gray-eyed individual watching Qu WeiYin. "Why have you trespassed into our room, my lady?"
Luo JinXiao now took a closer look. Not only were the person's eyes gray, but their hair was a pale gray too, their skin unnaturally white, veins visible, like a delicate porcelain doll in a snowy landscape-both bewitching and fragile.
Their entire appearance revealed nothing of their gender.
Qu WeiYin looked impatient, turning to face the androgynous person, her gaze locking onto them with a flood of emotions.
The person remained calm, even lowering their head to cough violently into their hand, knuckles prominent.
"Yu Gui," Qu WeiYin suddenly spoke.
"How does the lady know my true name? Only the closest people know it," the person replied with a faint smile, their aura more mesmerizing, inviting no blame.
"Yao Yao, come down," Yu Gui said, reaching for the youth Qu WeiYin held. The youth stumbled, and to Luo JinXiao's surprise, Qu WeiYin released him, steadying him.
