I got back to the tower, feeling good, I entered our shared apartment and got ready for bed.
"How's my birdy?" He smiled and hugged me tightly.
"Good. I feel relieved." I sighed happily.
"The mission was a success then. I knew you wouldn't disappoint me." He smiled and held me close.
Arm in arm, his warmth comforting me while we fell asleep.
The morning sun broke into our apartment and tore me from my dreams.
"Good morning darlin'." John greeted. His hair was messy, his hand holding his head up as he smiled at me.
"Good morning, handsome." I smiled and stared into his face. Taking in the features I had just seen in my dreams.
John shot me another toothy smile and got out of bed."I'm so happy." I sighed.
John stretched before looking back at me. "Why's that?" He asked.
"Probably because of you." I suggested and got up as well.
I checked our schedules as we sat down for breakfast.
"Looks like I've got an interview while you do a rescue thing downtown." I read aloud, and John nodded. We kissed and went our separate ways for the day.
I went over to the location and went over to Ashley."Red Canary! Good to see you." She exhaled and smiled widely.
"Heey." I said and waved at her. She pointed me to the makeup team. While they got me ready, she filled me in on the details.
I was being interviewed with Deep. The newbie supporting their teammate in a rather personal quest -Oceanland-.
While Deep was already being interviewed and gave context, I was waiting for my queue.
"And here is the previously announced support! Red Canary!" Cameron Coleman yelled excitedly.
I entered the room, waving and smiling, just like Homelander had taught me.
"So good to have you Red Canary." Coleman said loudly.
"So good to be here." I countered with a big smile.
"So. Oceanland. The Deep already told us about his personal connection and why we're here today. Talking about the future of our aquatic friends." Coleman explained dramatically, as if I had not heard everything from behind the stage. "Now, the thing I want to talk to you about is why you're here. Why are you supporting the Deep in this?" He asked, making a serious grimace.
"I believe that The Deep having brought this topic to the table is very courageous of him. Having been their mascot for so long. I can't even begin to imagine what pain you must've been in while smiling through the commercials while hearing your friends cries." I said overly dramatic.
Deep just nodded sadly.
"I believe that every life matters. Humans are mammals. The only thing that makes humans "so special" are our posable thumbs." I said and heard a couple of cheers from the live audience
"I believe that as the head of the food chain, we have to bring justice down to our less fortunate "roommates. " Because we all live on the same planet, we have to share." I said and tried to hide my true emotions as well as I could."Thank you, Red Canary. That means a lot." The Deep said and looked over with a heartfelt smile.
"Not for that, bro." I replied, and he mouthed a slow "bro" back at me and nodded deeply.
"Look at those people. You've seen it here first. The Deep and Red Canary. Teammates fighting for eachothers beliefs. Isn't that something special!" He said dramatically, and the audience gave cheers and "awws".
"I believe we've come to the end of our time. Thank you so much for stopping by. Give it up for The Deep and Red Canary!" Coleman yelled one last time.
Deep and I exited, and while the cheers and "woos" got quieter, I could feel my heart race. John is not going to be happy when he hears about this. I thought to myself.
