Water in hand, he sat there on the couch. Not moving, barely breathing.
We sat in silence while I waited for him to do something.
Homelander took a sip from his glass and then placed it back on his tigh. I slowly took the glass from him and placed it on the table. Afterward, I took his hand in mine and continued to wait.Time felt frozen as we sat on the couch.
In the end I don't know how long we sat there. Eventually, I started talking in a hushed tone.
"Are you okay?" I asked, but John didn't respond. "What made you so upset?" I asked.
He squeezed my hand lightly.
I acknowledge the squeeze and said really quietly, "ok."
As more time went by, the sun started to set, the room got dark until there was no more light, and we still sat on the couch."I.." John caughed. "I got angry." He admitted.
"I saw that." I answered lightly.
"There's a new trend that one of the interviewers mentioned today." He said sour."A new trend. Since when have you been one to follow up on trends?" I asked, confused.
"Only if that trend has something to do with me... or you." He sighed heavily. "Apperently hashtag deepred is trending everywhere. This new interviewer didn't get the memo that I don't talk about drama like that." He mumbled.
"Drama?" I asked. "What drama?"
"You and Deep. The public has put you on a pedestal, and he is on it with you. There's even talk about giving the two of you more missions and more public events together! Basically, everyone thinks you two would be the perfect couple." He raged.
"I think you're taking this too seriously. No one is gonna take me from you. Hashtag Redlander all the way. I love you, not Deep." I reassured him, and he smiled softly.
