instead of the hermits just like, changing their skins to be gray, they get knocked unconscious and imprisoned in the void while a grayed out version replaces them
maybe Grian did this by testing out something like arcane magic and adjusted a few spells, mixed it with some void magic, set up some arcane runes and a magic circle in the end, and then just never told anyone?? like not even Xisuma knew about it??
what if, when Xisuma died, he was sent to the void but not knocked unconscious because the void magic didn't effect him, then he used his coding and bits of void magic he could use, and managed to teleport himself out; he was all grayed out and stuff but at least he was out
and that's why he tried to protect Keralis and BDubs, to make sure the magic never affected them
