PRAYER: MAN'S OXYGEN, TEACHER, & ESCORT (Not God's)

Today, God was reminding me of something a friend shared with me a couple weeks ago that was personally profound to me:

We often pray with a mindset as if the infinite, omniscient God didn't already know our need; or pray as if we could possibly care more for the person we are praying, than the One whose very name is Love.

This insight that God taught my friend has helped me to better understand Philippians 4:6-7, how I can be thankful that God already knows the need before I even say it and how the promise/fruit in verse 7 is truly fulfilled and experienced when the call of verse 6 is properly exercised and trusted.

“God, who made the world and everything in it, since He is Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made with hands. Nor is He worshiped with men’s hands, as though He needed anything, since He gives to all life, breath, and all things." ~Acts 17:24‭-‬25

"Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him." ~I John 5:14‭-‬15

"Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God." ~Romans 8:26‭-‬27

"But as it is written: “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, Nor have entered into the heart of man The things which God has prepared for those who love Him.” But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God. For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God. Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God." ~I Corinthians 2:9‭-‬12

"Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus." ~Philippians 4:6‭-‬7
