AN OLD & NEW WRATH...and the Atonement provided from the Beginning

If God's wrath ceased to exist then His mercy would also cease to exist. Mercy cannot make sense apart from wrath. The definition of mercy is that we are pardoned/forgiven of our wrongdoing and spared from its penalty. But if the penalty/"wrath" does not exist, how can we be given "mercy"?
Surely, in one sense, God's justice/wrath against our sin has been fulfilled through the perfect-pure sacrifice found in His Son, Jesus Christ. We need no longer fear and despair to pay the price for our sins because He, with great love, paid it all. God's wrath against the fall of man has been fulfilled.
In another sense, a different kind of wrath now exists...is created...when man (redeemed or rebellious) chooses to disregard God's mercy/sacrifice and rather considers himself as self sufficient and independent (rather than dependent) on His mercy.

Or do you despise the riches of His goodness, forbearance, and longsuffering, not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance? But in accordance with your hardness and your impenitent heart you are treasuring up for yourself wrath in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God, who “will render to each one according to his deeds”: eternal life to those who by patient continuance in doing good seek for glory, honor, and immortality; but to those who are self-seeking and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness—indignation and wrath, tribulation and anguish, on every soul of man who does evil...but glory, honor, and peace to everyone who works what is good..." ~Romans 2:4-9 & 10

Surely, it is not God's desire or delight that any of those He has created in His image who are lost, should perish...but that all should come to repentance; that all should answer the accepted time, the day of salvation, that all should take hold of His mercy: Eternal Life...lest they be left with the only option available: Eternal Death (brought about by their fallen desires). [Proverbs 8:34-36]

Isaiah 55:6-7 ~ "Seek the Lord while He may be found, Call upon Him while He is near. Let the wicked forsake his way, And the unrighteous man his thoughts; Let him return to the Lord, And He will have mercy on him; And to our God, For He will abundantly pardon."

Isaiah 57:11 ~ "And of whom have you been afraid, or feared, That you have lied And not remembered Me, Nor taken it to your heart? Is it not because I have held My peace from of old That you do not fear Me?"

Ezekiel 18:21-23 ~ "But if a wicked man turns from all his sins which he has committed, keeps all My statutes, and does what is lawful and right, he shall surely live; he shall not die. None of the transgressions which he has committed shall be remembered against him; because of the righteousness which he has done, he shall live. Do I have any pleasure at all that the wicked should die?” says the Lord God, “and not that he should turn from his ways and live?"

1 Timothy 2:3-4 & 4:10 ~ "For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth... For to this end we both labor and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Savior of all men, especially of those who believe."

2 Peter 3:9 ~ "The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance."

1 John 2:1-2 ~ "My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the whole world."
