Anyone...whether it is one's self, couple, marriage, family, congregation, denomination, pastor, teacher, leader, or celebrity...who conduct and portray themselves as "perfect", do great disservice to the working of God's grace and the testimony to His redemption. Our first and resounding cry to our fellow man, particularly and especially to an unbelieving world, should resemble that of what Paul & Barnabas declared: "We also are men with the same nature as you..."
We greatly misunderstand Christ's call to perfection when He said: "You shall be perfect as your Heavenly Father is perfect." (Matthew 5:48) Was not this call the same as Colossians 3:14, when through Paul, God calls us "to put on love which is the bond of perfection" ?
Do you and I really think the embodiment and incarnation of Truth would call us to be whitewashed tombs like the Pharisees and lie to those around us, about the struggles and temptations we deal with and have often surrendered to? Do you & I really believe the Man of Sorrow, the Lord of Mercy, cannot somehow deal with the ugly reality of our humanity and sympathize with our imperfections, temptations, struggles and failures? If we Christians, are truly perfect beyond danger or battle against sin, (as many of us seem to speak, with our lives and words) what need then exists for the Divine Doctor-Physician to continue being and doing His work on us?
