(Young Justice) Nightwing x reader

They say the feeling of rejection is the worst.
But really it was the feeling that you knew that they didn't feel the same way about you, the same way you felt about them.
It was the main reason i left the group that called themselves Young Justice.
A group of former sidekicks of the members of the Justice League.
I never thought i be back in that mountain, the hidden headquarters of the YJ team.
From what i heared from hero's that choose to work solo rather than join either League.
Mount Justice exploded, my former team mate Auqalad who i thought turned evil was actually a spy.
A plan formed by the team's former leader Nightwing and Kidflash who was retired.
Kidflash died after saving the world from the chrysallies, an attempt to enslave the world by the reach and black beetle.
The team moved on thinking Wally was really dead cause he speed blitzed.
When in reality he was in another world i gave that information discreetly to Jamie.
When i found him at his house.

Connor died on his wedding day, and after a year i heared both he and wally were brought back.
Thankfully Jamie told them what i told him.
But then i heared Nightwing disappeared off the face of the earth, looking for someone.
Who he was looking for remained a complete mystery to everyone.
I never thought i see any of my former team mates.
But i guess i should of knowm that I would run into them one of these days.

After three years I run into them on a mission to rescue a run away teenager from his drug lord parents.
Or so he told me.
I was on the roof of a warehouse across from the building they were keeping Nathan in.
How i got this case was pretty normal in my line of work, as a freelance vigilante.
As i watch the movement of the guards i remember how the kid came up to me.

(Flash back)

I was in a karaoke diner, sipping on my favorite soda, doctor pepper which was promoting the new movie i kept hearing about.
Jurastic world dominion, turns out it was pretty good.
When a deep red head teenager came up to me with a split lip and shaking.
I was imeaditly suspicious of the kid, one he reminded me of an old teammate, second my mentor Batman, who is also my dad, always told me always trust your gut, there is no such thing as coincidences.
I then said looking at him.
"Can i help you"?
When i saw the brown eyes something clicked, but i couldn't put my finger on what, yet.
He then said.
"Yes, I'm Nathan.
I heared your a,
(He looked around and then whispered when he was sure no one could hear him.)
A vigilante".
I held my weapon under the table and he heared the click.
I then said.
"No one knows what i do.
So ill ask you only once, how do you know"?
He then said.
"My parents are drug lords, really evil people.
I need your help, their coming after me".
I looked at his split lip as he said.
"Please".
I then said putting my weapon away and the feeling i thought i never have when i got into this life.
I felt like my old self.
"Okay first you look like you need something to eat, then we'll go to my place".
I raised my hand to call over the watriess and the windows exploded.
Then people with guns came in, masks covering their faces and the kid yelled as they hit me on the head and they dragged him away.
"Help"!
I grabbed one of them and they kicked me.
But they dont know i had a tracker in my palm.
I then said getting up and following them.
"Im coming nathan".
(End of flash back)

I put on my suit and one of the guards left.
'This is my chance'.
I striked fast and hard.
Once he was down, i went in and threw my staff at the guards around Nathan.
Once they were passed out I went to him.
He said when i removed the gag.
"You came".
I then said as i worked on the cuffs.
"Of course i did".
He then said.
"Now i feel bad".
I looked at him and said.
"Why"?
Then i heared a voice in my head, her voice, Megan's voice.
'Cause it was the only way we could reach you'.
I turned to see miss marshen man hunter.
A white marshen and i see she wasn't afriad to show she wasn't a green marshen.
I then said as i saw Nathan vibrate out of the cuffs.
"Your not Nathan, your impulse a speedster from the futture".
He then said as the guards got up and toke off their masks, to reavel members of the young justice league.
"Yep, im sorry we tricked you like this but we need your help".
I then said containing my anger.
"I work alone".
Connor then said.
"We know but y-".
I then raised my voice, anger slipped out.
"Don't call me that!
(I then said calming down.)
I left for a reason and im not going to be dragged back in!
(A tear fell from my eye.
Nightwing may not be at the moutain anymore, but the place reminded me of him.
My anger gone and i finally talked normally.)
Im sorry, but im afriad-".
Wally then said as he stepped forward.
"Nightwing has been brainwashed by the grandmaster".
I stopped and looked at him.
I heared of the grandmaster, aparently immortal and he brainwashed people he wanted to join his group.
Made up story's that he saved them, forget their lives.
But like all brainwashing, it was only permant if you didnt know the key to decode the programing.
But when you had a marshen for a bestie you didn't need the key.
I then said.
"Why do you need me?, can't Megan reverse the programming"?
Auqalad then said.
"We tried that,
(I shook my head and began to walk.)
but she found a key to bring him back".
I stopped again and i said.
"If i agreed to go with you.
(I looked at my old friend.)
what does this have to do with me"?
Impulse then said.
"Megan noticed that he tossed in his sleep, she saw a memory, untouched by the grandmaster.
A memory of who he was looking for and the feeling behind it.

I then said shocked.
"Me why"?
Wally then said smirking.
"Why don't you ask him when he's back to normal".
I closed my eyes and toke a deep breath, man i forgot he can be annoying.
I then said walking toward them and past them.
"Lets go before i change my mind".
I got onto the old bishop and sat down.
Once everyone was on, Megan flew us back to the mountain.
Impulse sat by me and said.
"My name's Bart, Bart Allen by the way".
I then said.
"And im not in the mood".
Bart then said understanding.
"I know, you have every right to be angry at me, at the team for not coming to help you-".
I then said.
"I'm angry cause I told them to leave me alone.
(I looked at Bart.)
I thought ignoring their calls was clear enough that i didn't want to see them again".
Bart then said leaning forward.
"Is that really how you feel?
(I looked at him and he said.)
You want to see them again, just not Nightwing".
I then said looking him up and down.
"Allen, like Barry allen, I didn't know he had another kid".
Bart smiled and said.
"Oh im not his son, I'm his grandson from the future.
It's how i knew you were at that karaoke diner.
What i don't know is why you left the team".
I then said as i looked out the window so see the fimilar beach of pearl harbor.
"Cause i knew he wouldnt feel the same way about me ".
The bioship landed in the mountain.
I then said as everyone waited for me to get up first.
"Do they really think i would run"?
Bart then said.
"I guess they just want to spend what little time you are here that they have, with you.
(I got up and walked out first with Bart at my side.)
And fyi, your wrong".
I looked at him confused, during my time as a freelancer, i made some choices i believe were the wrong ones.
But how could I make the right choice when i didn't have a team to help me.
I then said looking at Bart, stopping in the briefing area, infront of the giant computer.
"I was wrong about alot of things during my time as a freelancer kid, care to be specific"?
He then said looking at me.
"Why do you think he went looking for you"?
I then said.
"I'm his friend, i didn't exactly stick around to explain my sudden departer".
Bart then said before Auqalad, Connor, Wally, Megan, and Artemis came over.
"Your more than a friend to him".
Wally then said, my guess he was trying to lighten the mood, or ignore the glare i was aiming at my former team mates under my mask.
"Well look at this, the whole gang is here.
(He looked up at the ceiling.)

I then said.
"Okay so where is he"?
Artemis then said.
"Right to the point then".
I then said keeping my tone at a medium but firm.
"Your dam right, you guys tricked me to get me to help, so im going to help.
Im sorry if im alittle crabby.
(I looled at all of them, making it clear that I'm peaved.)
But let's get right to it instead of reminising about the good old days.
This isn't the good old days, nor is the time or the place for it.
I'm missing happy hour at the diner cause of this.
I don't want to be here longer than i have to".
Megan had a sad look in her eye and i said calming down.
"Don't look at me like that Megan,
Nothing's changed".
Connor then said.
"In the cell made to keep an enemy trapped.
But we planed to use it to make you confess to nightwing how you feel before you left".
I then said closing my eyes groaning.
"You knowing how i felt dosent change the fact that the moment he's back, I'm leaving".
Bart then said.
"Are you sure you don't have those feelings for him"?
I then said looking at him.
"Does it matter?
He was dating Zatanna, he still is.
It didn't matter then, it doesn't matter now.
Im sorry guys".
I walked to the cell, I was trapped inside it with a villain that broke in once.
Once i saw it, I realised a breath I was holding.
Keeping my angry tears tears at bay.
He was siting on a make shift bed playing with the tips of his fingers.
His uniform is different, no blue bird symbol on his chest and no mask.
I walked forward and toke my mask off.
He then said.
"Came back for another go did you"?
He looked up and i said when he paused seeing me.
"You always were stubborn.
(He watched me as I walked around)
Even when everyone knew a better way.
Your more stubborn than the bull itself".
He then said.
"Is this an illusion, you can't be real the grandmaster that you were-".
I then said cutting him off.
"Imaginary?, well look at this im right here talking to you.
What story did he tell you?
That he saved you after your parents were murdered"?
Nightwing got up and said as he rubbed his head.
"Stop".
I raised my voice and contiued.
"That he saved you from the horror and promised you revenge?
News flash Grayson!
Batman toke you in, rasied you to fight crime, so you didn't become like him!
(Nightwing hit the glass and groaned rubbing his head.)
He taught you to fight for justice, not vengeance.
When we met, i was angry at you then, just as i am angry at you right now"!
Nightwing got the glass again, not leaving dent, no cracks and he yelled.
"Stop please"!
I then said stopping as he looked at me.
"I thought he didn't care i existed cause he adopted you!
His own daughter!
Who he had with a villain and didn't bother to look for me.
Just as he didn't bother when i left"!
He said in a whisper as tears fell.
"Please".
I then said looking at him.
"No Dick!
(He looked at me and i see it, what i was doing was bringing him back.)
Im not going to stop.
You want to know why i left!
(He closed his eyes and cried.)

(He opened his eyes and looked at me and he was coming back, just need to break one more wall.)
Growing up with you I finally understood i was angry at myself cause i started to grow a crush.
That crush bloomed into feelings for you as he taught us both to fight evil.
When we formed Young Justice with our best friend Wally, Auqalad, Megan, Connor and Artemis.
I thought i had a chance.
But when Zatanna joined things changed.
Thought it's selfish to wish she never stepped foot in the mountain.
I realised after 3 years of being angry that i didn't take that chance that New Years Eve, i realised again i was angry at myself.
(He shock his head.)
Cause it wasn't because i didn't take the chance, it's because i knew you wouldn't feel the same way about me.
So I hate you, cause I shouldn't still love you".
He looked at me and i said raising my voice.
"So snap the hell out of it Grayson so I can try to get over you"!
He yelled holding his head as he yelled.
"No"!
He then fell after he past out.
I then turned to the camera and said as the angry tears spilled.
"I told him, happy"?
I then left the room and went to the groto.
I angry staggered to the wall and then slid down it.
My head fell to my arms and i cried.
Letting it out.
The pain, the anger, the saddness of him finally knowing came pouring out like a dam was just broken.
The kind of pain that makes you want to scream, but nothing comes out.
Silently screaming as i felt like my pain was stabbing at my heart.
I looked at the mask i toke off, the mask Dick made for me when he was robin.
