Prince Derek x reader (modern)

(Y/n's pov)
Roberta was many things, subtle was not one of them.
When she requested my father for security to protect the kingdom, she didn't know he had a kid.
But when she saw my picture when i was little she asked if maybe me and her son could hang out.
That's what started our friendship since I was 5 and Derek was 7.
Brom Derek's best friend was the same age as Derek.
After I was picked on by someone that was way bigger than me, Derek intervened.
That's when our friendship has truley grown.
But that changed the mintue Odette came into the picture.
The summer when she's here, I'm away from the castle, and from what my father noticed since he picked up on something I thought I hide well over the years, Derek was alot happier around me, but with Odette he was a bit of a jerk.
When Odette here I used my time to shot arrows from my bow.
Derek taught me the basics and i was now a master.
I ran and flipped my inter body as i shot my arrows, not bothering to check to see if they hit the center.
Once i landed on the tips of my feet after firing my last arrow i looked up to see that all of them hit dead center.
I smiled and then i heared clapping and endless cheering.
I was confused looking at the balcony to see Rodger, the conductor of the musicians for one of robertas's ball's.
Brom was besides him whistling and that's when i saw her, Odette.
Beautiful as a swan, though the arrage engagement that Roberta and Odette father constructed in their heads was cancelled cause neither Derek or Odette felt that way for one another, but they were okay with being friends.

But that didn't make me feel any more confident that i had a chance with Derek.
I waved at them and put my bow in the quiver and went to retrieve my arrows.
Once the last one was in, i waved as i began walking to the first set of stairs.
Roberta let out the must obvious yell i ever heared.
"Derek come see who's here"!
Brom got to met first and said hugging me.
"Your back, how did the competition go"?
Rodger playfully held his fists up as he said smiling.
"Did you show those other archers who's the boss"?
I then said as Roberta made her way as i began to talk.
"Know Rodger, ill tell everyone when-.
(Roberta gave the biggest bear hug ever and it made the air leave my lungs.)
Everyone's here".
Roberta said smiling at me.
"Y/n i haven't seen you in a month and yet you grown so much more into the women i alwayd imagened".
I blushed and said.
"Thank you
(I curitsed.)
Queen Roberta".
She then said wavering her hand as she knew i was being playful.
"How many times do i have to say it call me Roberta y/n your like a daughter to me".
Odette came over and gave me a hug to as she said.
"Its good to see you again y/n".
We high fived as i said.
"You to odette".
When i heared Derek's voice, it was like I was hearing it for the first time
"Y/n".
I haven't seen Derek since the engagement was called off and that was a month ago.
I never been more thankful then for work and my hobby for competing in archery around the world, than I was now, because I learned how to remain calm dispite feeling flustered.
Today was my first day back.
I know I haven't written to Derek in about two weeks, but the thought of seeing him again scared me.
Cause in his last letter he said he loves another women and plans to tell everyone about her in the ball Roberta plans to throw when I get back.
I closed my eyes and toke a breath the moment I thought of the ball.
'If he's happy, you should be happy for him.
That should be enough'.
I turned around and opened my eyes and smiled.

Derek looked the same but something was different about him, he must of grown more handsomely since I last seen him, but the change was his eyes.
They sparkled with happiness and shined bright with an emotion that I never seen before and can't place my finger on it either.
He ran over and he hugged me, he picked me up and spinned me around.
We both laughed happily to see one another again.
He then said setting me down.
"Y/n im so happy your here!
(He hugged me again and i tried to ignore the feeling of butterflies in my stomic when i noted how i seem to fit like a puzzle piece when Derek had his arms around my waist.
'Get a grip l/n He loves someone else'.)
How did it go, knowing that smile on your face gou have good news".
I then said smiling.
"Yes, all that training and practice paled off.
I won".
Everyone cheered and Roberta said.
"This calls for a celebration,
(She then said as she began speaking to Rodger.)
Rodger this ball must be big, very big"!
I then said remebering that the ball 2as tonight.
"Oh I have to run and errand before i got to get ready".
I packed Derek's cheek and said.
"See you later".
I past the others and said as i was near the tree line.
"I'm glade to be back, see you all soon".
