Pidge would like to think she was rather brave. Someone had to be a tiny bit brave to rescue royals from their cursed imprisonment and charge towards the protectors of the royals that would easily slaughter her without a second thought. 

She had chosen this path and she did not regret it. 

No one should be forced and brainwashed into thinking that they're powerless without a true love saving the day. Sure, sometimes everyone needs help and to be saved. But to have their whole life focused on only being a helpless damsel wasn't correct either.  

Pidge knew she was brave, just as she knew all her friends were brave. 

But she also knew what awaited her in the visit awaiting them.

Shiro was crowned Prince Matthew's knight, chosen by Prince Mathew parents who were the king and queen of Far Away kingdom. The kingdom of Pidge's birth and the place she was born cursed, cursed to forever be hated. 

Pidge had grown silent, felt her blood run cold enough to leave her frozen numb and facing frost bite underneath her very skin. Fallen too stunned to talk up and reject Shiro's offer to meet the royals of the Far Away kingdom, more so when Prince Matthew had been excitedly hoping to meet them all. To pass on his gratitude towards them for saving his bride for him when he had failed to save her. 

Shiro had shown his prince's letter of promised safety and comfort at the castle for the whole squad of Gunderson's members. For them all to stay as long as they wish and be his honoured guests. 

It meant Shay would be somewhere safe, dry and warm when she gives birth to her and Hunk's expected child. That Hunk could care for his wife as she safely rests and care for their child once they're born. For none of them to risk growing hungry or fearing where to take shelter.

It was a great offer and all had accepted such an invite. 

It left Pidge facing the dread of returning to the home she was banished from long ago. The place that held the very people who had thrown her away the moment they could. To curse and lock her away, to forever be kept a secret from the rest of the planet. 

Pidge had been dragged out of one prison in her life and thrown into a stronger and more magical one afterwards. A prison she had assumed she had long since escaped from. And escape she did but now she was willingly returning to her first prison, knowing she'd never be welcomed there once they learnt over who she truly is. 

So, why Pidge knew she was brave, she was also once a terrified child that held no one to protect her when she needed it most. She was seen as a curse, unwanted and easily removeable. 

That child still lived deep within her, in the darkest part of her heart and that child had never truly escaped either of her two prisons from her childhood. 

It left Pidge fleeing  the carriage the moment the castle of Far Away kingdom had came into view. As Shiro spoke over facts over the kingdom towards the rest who stared up in awe and fascinating towards the castle they'd be calling as their home for the next few months. It was her only chance to leap out the carriage door, leaving it to slam close behind her and sprint as far away from it as she could.
