Side Note: It has been a very long time since I watched the Pacific Rim's movies. And I remember the rough basics outline but nothing in depth. So, don't expect this to be too cannon.

Jaegers

The Garrison's Shatterdome was always full of life one way or another. It was an military base like any other Shatterdomes scattered around the planet but it worked slightly different. Held some of it's own rules without the care over anyone outside the Garrison's thoughts about them.

The Garrison allowed families to live there, the Shatterdome was no more dangerous then the cities themselves. The walls had failed, if an ranked enough Kaiju reaches them, they'll be breaking into the city in no time.

The Shatterdome was as strongly built and armoured as an Jaeger was, or as the pilots of said Jaegers liked to nickname as paladins. Jeagers were boring names, dull to them all but announcing they were paladins always left pilots and others grinning. Filling with more pride and excitement.

So, families and children were allowed to live at the Garrison. Allowing pilots to spend time with their loves ones outside of training and calls. To make memories and be together happily instead of staying far apart from each other until they finally retire or die.

The legal age over being an pilot, eighteen, was also a little iffy as well. The youngest pilot to ever be an paladin pilot was Katie Holt, she had been fifteen when she first stepped into an Jeager and she caused some real hell on the Kaiji. She still do with her co-pilot, her big brother, Matthew Holt in their Paladin named, Gunderson.

Gunderson was a force to be reckoned with, the siblings were smart and dangerous.

Pilots also held more freedom to date and marry whoever they pleased. No rules against dating each other or certain co-workers within the Shatterdome. You only got to live once and most of them were likely to die by an Kaiju's hands as they fight to protect their planet.

It meant that everyone was more happy, held a tiny bit more freedom and felt human instead of mere replaceable soldiers.

Of course, rules were laid out and expected to be follow to keep the extra joy and freedom in the Garrison. The rules that were left were important and made for a reason, forcing all to follow them for the good of all within the Garrison.

But it also meant that the pilots also got to mess around a lot, as long as they completed their mission, they were able to life their lives comfortably enough.

It's why as Sharpshooter, an Jaeger paladin made for long distance fighting and strong legs to kick the Kaiju away and squash skulls, was dropped. Neither Lance nor Romelle were overly surprised to find both Gunderson and Brotherhood dancing with each other without a care.

The four pilots were all working perfectly well together in sink to allow their two paladins to slow dance together in the stormy weather, waves crashing harshly at their feet.
