A hint of cruelty can be seen in the Half-Monarch's smile and as Ye Gui Feng looks to the Moments that stand at the forefront of their ruler he felt almost as if he is looking at hostility in physical form.

[...]

Oddly enough the hostility of the myriad Moments aren't directed upon Ye Gui Feng himself but are instead aimed towards their peers.

Despite how familiar they are with the other there was almost no sense of unity to be felt from their numbers making it obvious that they are all acting on the interest of their individual selves.

[Now then... Distinguish yourselves from your peers and prove to me that you are worthy of becoming a part of the eternity that I shall create.]

Maintaining his smile the Half-Monarch raises his right hand and this gesture provokes the instant reaction of the Moments in front of him as they rush out of the stone gate.

It might not seem obvious at first glance but every Moment under the possession of the Half-Monarch all knew that this day would come in which they must prove their value to become worthy of holding a place in the Half-Monarch's eternity.

And the easiest means to prove their worth-

[Tch.]

Facing the numerous Moments that are rushing towards him Ye Gui Feng moves back while performing a single-handed incantation gesture.

To the myriad Moments this encounter with Ye Gui Feng is considered a competition and an opportunity to rise above their peers.

It's clear that those who participate and survive will have greater worth to the Half-Monarch.

But participation and survival are only secondary objectives of interest as the core focus that these Moments have is to kill Ye Gui Feng who the Half-Monarch sees as someone who stands above them in value.

Should they be the one to kill their main target they can only imagine how much value they would hold for having accomplished this feat.

[Possessing ambitions is one thing but having the strength to be worthy of holding such ambitions is another. After all there's nothing stopping a fool from wanting to hold the world on the palm of their hand.]

For those within this gathering that possesses a strength that outclasses their peers by far these words muttered by the Half-Monarch couldn't be any further from the truth.

The thoughts that the Moments have in mind is something that the Half-Monarch is aware of, but he chose not to do anything about it as dissatisfaction can spawn so easily should he lean biasedly towards one side.

Under the circumstances in which a number of these Moments hold a personal contract with him it was all but obvious that he must maintain a neutral stance and allow the masses to enforce their own order and should Ye Gui Feng really be killed by one of the Moments under his possession the Half-Monarch can only say that the person's true value was worth only this much.

To the Half-Monarch the existence of Ye Gui Feng and the Moments are like a collection of treasured swords with only one of them being worthy of becoming his main weapon of choice.

First these swords must be collected, then they must be tested.

In the present instance the collecting process has already finished as all the blades that have caught his eyes have gathered before him and what's left is to test them.

And what better way is there to test these blades other than to let them clash?

It didn't matter which of the swords become the victor in the end for all that the Half-Monarch desires is to wield it as his tool to cleave open the path towards the Eternal.

Naturally should Ye Gui Feng be the one to emerge victorious the Half-Monarch knew that he would have ended up with a cursed sword that's difficult to predict.

But that is exactly what makes all of this so thrilling to him as there's no way to know just which of them will be the devourer and the devoured.

[...]

Waving his left hand Ye Gui Feng casts a sea of flames towards the incoming enemies.

Towards this attempt at pushing them back most of the Moments chose to evade but there are a few amongst their numbers that charged through and emerged unscathed.

[...]

As one of the Moments charge in from the right Ye Gui Feng opens slowly his right eye that had regenerated.

As a gleam of coldness flashes from Ye Gui Feng's right eye the expression of confidence that had been present on the Moment's face collapses but just as they were thinking of backing away-

*...!!!* it was already too late as a streak of red radiance lashes across their neck.

A thread of blood flows through the air and with it the head of a person is effortlessly severed from their body with a flawless cut.

[...?]

An unpleasant expression appears on Ye Gui Feng's face upon killing the enemy as a sense of disgust wells up from his very soul. Accompanying this sense of disgust are the memories of the person that he had just killed.

[Tch!]

Shaking his head and forcefully diverting his attention from these memories Ye Gui Feng blocks off the attack of another enemy before cutting them down.

[What is this?]

The feeling of disgust from before intensifies with the death of another enemy as more memories are forcefully crammed into Ye Gui Feng's head making it difficult for him to focus on the battle in front of him.

[Ah how nice... I wonder just how long it's been since I've last seen blood. Maybe... A good number of centuries.]

The pungent scent of freshly spilled blood drowns Ye Gui Feng's five senses as the figure of a white robed young man walks to him in leisure.

[You...]

The young man with an ordinary face is none other than the first of the many Moments to step out of the stone gate.

Despite how harmless this person might seem on the surface he is surely not a saint as the entirety of his existence at this time seems to embody the essence of what it means to be a bloodthirsty fiend.

Narrowing his eyes Ye Gui Feng can see the vague figure of a phantom body looming behind the young man.

[...]

[I wonder why...]

Upon meeting Ye Gui Feng's eyes the young man takes a single step forward and appears right in front of Ye Gui Feng to throw out a punch that is mimicked by the phantom figure behind him.

[There's something about the entirety of your existence that irks me.]

*Klang!* having his attack blocked off by the sword in Ye Gui Feng's hand the young man speaks coldly and-

[Almost like the instinctive hatred that a person would feel when looking upon a roach.]

Drawing his right fist back the young man throws out the opposite fist and the heavy impact of this attack sends Ye Gui Feng to land on the head of the human like vessel.

[...]

Raising his head and looking at the young man the feelings of disgust from before gradually changes to that of hatred.
