After asking Yi for more details on the curse and going over the details of his plan Ye Gui Feng stores the jade slip away and thought about his next course of action.
To plant the curse on an individual he would have to be within a certain proximity of the target. But the problem is if he randomly makes visits to all the high ranking members of the sect at once someone will eventually connect the dots and trace the curse's roots back to him.
(I need some way to get close to some of the sect's highest ranking members and have them drop at a slow but steady interval...)
[Umm...]
"If you got something to say just say it."
[Wasn't the sixth patriarch looking for me?]
Towards Li Wen's reminder Ye Gui Feng thought for a moment before shaking his head.
The sixth patriarch looking for Li Wen could be an opportunity to plant a curse on them but-
"Killing any one of those that you had bad blood with means that those in the know will immediately begin to point fingers in the same direction. I don't need to say which direction that is, correct? To avoid suspicion I need to make the death orders seem very random."
[True...]
"When a nobleman takes revenge, ten years is not too late. Those three will all die at some point. As for whether they'll be the first, third, or the fifth to die... Well it doesn't really matter. Once a person is dead, they're dead it's all the same no matter how they went about dying. While they are alive just consider yourself generous in giving them more time to live."
Thinking of the matter in this manner does indeed provide some comfort for Li Wen as he nodded his head in understanding.
"Still... Continuing to put up your act of recovering from past injuries isn't viable either."
Spending a year's worth of time to recuperate seems reasonable but once it goes beyond a certain point people will begin to doubt.
"At some point or another that sixth patriarch will probably send people over to force you to come out."
[Then do you intend to head outside before that?]
"Well meeting him to probe the waters a bit and get some up to date information might not be too bad. As for whether or not I can plant that curse on him it will all depend on the situation. Still even if I did plant that curse on him I won't be able to activate it until a good amount of time has passed."
Standing up Ye Gui Feng waves his right hand causing a shroud to conceal the spiritual body of Li Wen from sight.
Having done that he moves to the doors and pushes them open.
"Whoever is in charge of maintaining my residence come and report to me!"
Rather quickly the housekeeper that Ye Gui Feng had seen conversing to the subordinate of the sixth patriarch emerges from the end of the halls and walks up to him.
In terms of appearance this housekeeper possesses a medium build with a plain face and judging by the sweat that is on his forehead he seems to be rather nervous about greeting the supposed master of this residence.
"State your name."
"Ā Niú (啊牛)."
Hearing this name that couldn't be more plain causes Ye Gui Feng to smile on the inside and examining this person more closely he realizes that they are a mortal.
(*Sigh* being a mortal and living in ignorance is perhaps the best way of life in this world.)
[Strange. I don't recall ever hiring a mortal to look after the place...]
Hearing the remark made by Li Wen Ye Gui Feng presses his brows together before-
"You're a mortal?"
"Y-Yes..."
"I don't recall having a mortal worker here. What happened while I was in seclusion?"
"...Fourth elder they... They all left half a year ago since the other elders were all paying better wages."
[...]
Hearing this Li Wen can only blink his eyes while trying to process the situation but contrary to him who is the true master of this residence Ye Gui Feng-
"I see. Well so be it. You though... How come you're still here if they were paying better wages?"
"My innate talent isn't anything to brag about so..."
Scratching his cheek in a flustered manner Ah Niu sighs.
(I suppose talent is all that anyone looks at...)
[My disciple, what happened to Wáng Yòu? (王右)]
"And Wang You, what happened to him?"
"The fifth elder took a liking to him so..."
Widening his eyes in outrage Li Wen wanted to curse but he didn't even know where to begin.
With his understanding of the fifth elder's character Li Wen knew that the person himself must have done this with the intent to humiliate him further.
But what's more difficult for Li Wen to accept is the fact that his disciple had actually accepted the fifth elder's offer.
[That bastard!]
Had Li Wen possessed a physical body at this time he would no doubt be clenching his fists while grinding his teeth together in anger.
"*Sigh*"
Knowing that it would be unnatural for him to not show any emotions in reaction to this Ye Gui Feng turns away from Ah Niu and raises a sigh.
"A white eyed wolf all those servants were but I didn't expect that disciple of mine to be the same as them..."
Saying these words with a sad tone that is seemingly genuine Ye Gui Feng puts on a brief display of depression before turning to face Ah Niu and pats him on the shoulder.
"You've done well in maintaining this residence during the time I was in seclusion. I'll reward you at a later date."
"You have my gratitude elder. Oh I almost forgot to tell you that the sixth patriarch was looking for you."
"*Sigh* go do whatever it is that needs doing. I'll go look for the sixth patriarch."
