[And what's the point in me telling everything to a random stranger?]
Readily seeing through Li Wen's act of using a bait to fish for his curiosity Ye Gui Feng raises the jade slip in his hand.
"I see. In that case into the slip you go-"
[...! I've simply no attachment to this sect and since you're going to end up destroying this sect no matter what I might as well get my revenge done!]
Seeing how quick Ye Gui Feng is in going to seal him into the jade slip Li Wen's mouth twitches as he says everything in a single breath.
Knowing that he isn't able to do anything to stop Ye Gui Feng from destroying this sect Li Wen figures that he might as well get his revenge done with the latter's help.
"How logical."
A well-crafted lie is one built upon a mix of fictions and truths to formulate a logical statement and precisely because the words Li Wen had just said happens to be so logical Ye Gui Feng finds it difficult to tell whether or not he is telling him the truth.
"Fine, tell me everything you know about the Spirit Crane Sect and the Xia family."
Whether Li Wen's information can be believed is uncertain but having them in the back of his mind would feel more reassuring.
And though Li Wen had placed down an oath to the heavens Ye Gui Feng knew that nothing is absolute when it comes to cultivation for the very act itself is meant to go against the natural orders that the Original Monarchs had established, hence oaths to the heavens and the likes are statements that Ye Gui Feng has chosen to never accept with complete faith.
.........
"..."
Having successfully infiltrated the Xia family Yi looks to the body that he has taken over in front of a mirror.
Compared to Ye Gui Feng who had luck in his search for someone to replace Yi had to settle for an individual outside of his expectations after a period of snooping around for information.
At this time he is currently standing inside of a well-decorated bedroom.
Four incense burners are placed in the four corners of the room with a bed centered at the back.
In the center of the room is a round table with a tea set on top.
"*Sigh* I suppose I'll just have to settle for this appearance. Had it been possible I would have hoped for my vessel to have a more... Charismatic face."
The physical appearance of the body that Yi has taken over is well over 50 and didn't give off any sort of imposing air.
Essentially he looked like nothing more than a plain old man that anyone would just walk pass on a crowded street without batting a second eye.
[...]
Hearing that his face didn't possess any sort of charisma the spiritual body of the body's owner glares at Yi with scorn as if to say if he wasn't satisfied with what he got he may as well return it.
"What's with the glare? Is it that difficult to accept the truth?"
Turning his head to the right and staring at the spiritual body Yi smiles with contempt.
The person Yi had taken over is the seventh elder of the Xia family who is renowned to be a cultivating manic that doesn't interact with others often.
While this fits Yi's criteria of possessing the body of someone who is aloof the fact that they didn't interact with others often meant it would be unnatural for him to go to the other elders of the Xia family and ask for information on recent events.
(*Sigh* whatever. I'll eventually get something to work with if I just wait a bit.)
Looking at the seventh elder of the Xia family with ill-intentions Yi says-
"Come to think of it... I wonder how many years has passed since I've lasted had a chance to devour a soul."
[...!]
Staring at Yi's eyes that reflected him as nothing more than food the seventh elder of the Xia family trembles.
Incidents where disciples of the Hell River Sect dined on souls isn't uncommon and is generally something that no one would bother to report if performed in moderation.
[Hmph you wouldn't dare to kill me just yet so I don-]
"Don't buy my threat do you? You're right I don't dare to kill you just yet. But the keyword here is yet. You have one chance to give yourself value by offering information. If your information is useful I'll let you live at the end of this."
[I was born as a clansman of the Xia family! Even if I die I'll die as a Xia family ghost!]
This is the difference between a sect and a household.
A household is tied together by blood while a sect is a group formed of mutual benefits.
Blood related bonds within a household is considered by many to be innately greater than the bonds that tie a sect together.
"Praiseworthy of you to make such a statement. But... It's all too bad that you are but a mere spiritual body at this time. As a former disciple of the Hell River Sect I possess far too many means to torment a soul."
[Ni-!]
Before the seventh elder of the Xia family can say anything the world around him vanishes leaving him in a sea of endless darkness.
"Time is the greatest whetstone available, the act of over polishing a blade will inevitably leave nothing but a pile of dust."
