*The Darkest Minds*

'Be on the lookout.... This is an alert... There is a Blue on the loose... They are the enemy... Working for Chauncey... Dangerous... Be careful... " the radio announced.

It would've been more helpful if it wasn't incredibly static and Liam could understand everything that was being said. However, he did manage to understand that there was a dangerous Blue on the loose which didn't make sense to him because he had never encountered a truly dangerous Blue.

He switched off the radio and decided to go to sleep. It was easy because the mall was quiet. At least, it was until he heard something being knocked over in the distance.

He quickly sat up and looked around him. When he saw nothing, he got up and started creeping around the the mall, towards the sound.

"Who's there?" he asked but got no answer. "If someone is there, reveal yourself. I'm not going to hurt you."

"You promise?" a voice asked.

"Yeah, I promise," Liam said back.

"Okay, I'm coming out slowly," the voice said.

A girl stepped out of the shadows and Liam was instantly mesmerized.

She was stunning. She had E/C eyes, beautiful H/C hair and amazing brown skin. Her hands were up in an 'I surrender' type of way.

"Hey," Liam greeted. "I'm Liam."

"Hi," she greeted back. "Y/N."

"What are you doing in here?"

"I'm trying to find safety and refuge. What are you doing in here?"

"Same, I guess," Liam shrugged. "Are you alone?"

"Yeah, I am. Are you?"

"Yeah, I lost my friends while trying to escape the Haven. As far as I'm concerned, they're safe too but I can't help but worry," he said.

"Oh," Y/N responded, lowering her arms. "What were their names?"

"Zu and Chubs. Did you lose your friends too?"

"Looking back, I don't think I can really call him a friend," she growled to herself.

Liam wanted to ask her what she meant but couldn't because she was talking to him again.

"Is it cool if I stay here?" she asked. "I kinda have nowhere else to go."

"Sure," Liam nodded. "I don't see a problem with that."

"Cool," she smiled.

TIME SKIP

Liam and Y/N had been staying together for a couple weeks and over the course of the weeks, they had grown closer.

A few more kids found the mall and started living there too but it was fine because they all lived in harmony. It was like the Haven but better because they weren't going to be used as weapons.

Liam and Y/N were kind of seen as the 'leaders' of the community because they were the first ones there and everybody looked to them if there was ever a problem.

It was night time and everyone was sitting around a campfire and having fun. Some kids were singing songs, others were playing games and a few had fallen asleep.

Liam looked over to Y/N and saw that she was playing with a few of the kids. She was laughing and smiling which made Liam smile.

He walked over to her and held out his hand.

"Can I take you away for a moment?" he asked her.

She looked to the kids as a way of asking for permission and they all agreed. She nodded and took Liam's hand.

They began walking through the mall and talking about anything and everything that came to their minds.

"So being a Green, what's that like?" Liam asked Y/N.

"What?" she asked before catching herself. "Oh, uh, it's okay. Growing up, a lot of people looked down on me because I wasn't as impressive as the other colours."

"That sucks. I think Greens are awesome," Liam told her.

"Thanks," she awkwardly chuckled. "But enough about me, what about you? What's it like being a Blue?"

"It's okay, I guess. I never really use my powers unless it's necessary but I like having them, you know?"

"Yeah," Y/N agreed. "I know."

She looked really upset and Liam was about to ask why when they heard screams in the distance.

"Do you hear that?" she asked.

"Yeah, I do," Liam said.

They looked at each other and realized what was going on at the same time.

"The community!"

They ran as fast they could but by the time they had gotten there more than half of the kids were being dragged away by Chauncey's goons.

"Stop fighting it! Just let it happen!" Y/N and Liam heard a familiar voice say.

They turned around and saw Chauncey standing there, watching everything happen.

"Don't make me have to use my Reds," he threatened.

He looked around and his eyes caught Y/N's.

"Y/N?" he questioned. "Is that really you?"

"Leave her alone, Chauncey!" Liam yelled, standing in front of her protectively.

"Oh, oh, this is good," Chauncey laughed. "This is so good. You got yourself a little boyfriend, Y/N? Geez, a guy loses a girl for a few weeks."

Liam turned to you.

"What's he talking about, Y/N? How does he know you?" he asked.

"Oh, you mean he doesn't know?" Chauncey gasped, dramatically. "Why don't you tell him the truth, Y/N?"

"Y/N? What is he talking about?" Liam asked again.

"Liam, I... I wanted to tell you but I didn't know how... I thought if you knew then... I'm sorry," she stuttered out.

Liam stepped away from her.

"Who are you? Are you even a Green?"

Y/N shook her head solemnly.

"No," she answered.

"Are you a Red?" he asked.

"No, no, I'm not. I promise I'm not."

"Then what are you?"

"Why don't you show him, Y/N?" Chauncey asked. "Guards, take him out."

The guards that weren't dragging away the children turned to Liam and all pointed their guns at him.

"Chauncey, don't do it," Y/N warned.

"Shoot!" Chauncey commanded.

Liam closed his eyes and braced himself but when he didn't feel anything, he opened his eyes.

The bullets that were going to hit him were stopped mid-air and the guards that shot them were all floating.

Liam looked around to find the source and saw Y/N standing there with her arms out and her eyes glowing blue.
