*How I Met Your Mother*

Ever since the divorce, you've been by Barney's side trying to comfort him but he wouldn't let his guard down and kept acting like everything was fine but you knew it wasn't.

Everything couldn't have been fine because Barney's ex wife and love of his life was dating his best friend which didn't make sense to you because Robin and Barney have been your OTP since day one despite your feelings for Barney.

You've been in love with him for the last ten years and you could've been the one to marry him had it not been for your cowardice and Robin going for it first. You were happy for your friends but were even happier when they broke up the first time, as horrible as that sounds.

Truth is, the other reason you didn't go for Barney was because of the girl code. You and Robin were close as hell, considering the fact that you both grew up in Canada together and came to America together. In fact, you were so close that you figured out that she and Barney had an affair while they were still with Kevin and Nora and you were the only person she told about her infertility the moment she found out. You were even the maid of honour at her and Barney's wedding so going for Barney felt wrong to you.

You did actually end up getting married though in 2010, to an amazing guy. You two had twins, a girl and a boy; Odessa and Peter but you two got a divorce three years later because he'd figured out that you were still in love with Barney and decided it wouldn't be fair to stay together. You two have joint custody and are still pretty good friends.

You were chilling in your penthouse, watching TV when you heard a knock on the door. When you opened it, you saw Barney standing there.

"Hey, what's up—" you began, only to get interrupted.

"Let's have a baby!" Barney exclaimed.

"What?" you asked.

Barney walked in and began explaining.

"It makes sense. We've been friends for forever. You know me better than anyone and vice versa. You're the best mom in the world and I'd obviously be the best dad ever, there's no doubt about it. So let's have a baby."

"Barney, that's insane," you told him.

"I knew you'd say that so I came up with a way to convince you that this is a good idea," he said as he grabbed your hand and pulled you out of you penthouse. "Follow me!"

"Barney, I'm in my pyjamas and it's freezing cold outside."

"I knew you'd say that too," he said. "Here."

He took off his coat and placed it over your shoulders then went back to holding your hand. He dragged you to his apartment which was about five blocks away from yours, in the freezing cold winter's night.

When you went inside his apartment you saw that the whole place was baby-proofed.

"Exhibit A, my whole apartment is already baby-proofed."

Then he dragged you to a closet and when he opened it, you saw baby stuff galore. There were baby clothes, diapers, bottles, pacifiers, toys and books.

"Exhibit B, my closet full of baby stuff."

He pulled out his phone.

"Exhibit C, I've been taking a parenting course for the last four weeks so I could be a great father."

He dialled someone's number and put them on loud speaker.

"This is Meredith Cooper, the teacher at Mommy, Daddy and Me. Barney is my top student. He's gonna be a great dad."

Barney then hung up and smiled at you.

You sighed.

"Barney—"

"Wait, before you say anything, I'm not done yet."

And so he dragged you to a dark room. You were about to ask where you were when he switched on the lights. You gasped at the sight in front of you.

It was a nursery, the best one you'd ever seen. It was a beautiful shade of grey with fairy lights draped along the walls and glow in the dark stars on the ceiling. There was a soft grey, rug on the floor and on it was a perfectly set up crib, with comfy pillows and blankets and over it were the words 'Stinson-Y/L/N' in bold. And finally, in the corner was a whole bunch of stuffed animals and they were all wearing suit and ties.

"Exhibit D, the nursery that I created all by myself to show you how serious I am about this," Barney said then he turned to you. "Y/N, I'm ready to be a dad. I want to be a dad and I can't think of a better person to be my kid's mom. I know I can do this, I just need your say so. So what do you say?"

You looked around at the nursery once more and thought back to all the other things Barney had shown you. Then you turned back to him and saw nothing but pure sincerity in his eyes. He really wanted this. He really wanted to be a dad and he really wanted you to be the kid's mom.

"I say; let's have a baby."
