*The Outsiders*
Everyday at exactly 16:00 on the dot, Y/N Y/L/N would walk into the DX with a smile on her face and a spring in her step. Sometimes she'd enter with her friends, laughing her head off or alone, with a smile so bright it could shine the darkness. Either way, Steve was here for it.
From the moment she first stepped in, he's had the hugest crush on her. He couldn't help but smile when she was in the same room as him. But unfortunately, she didn't feel the same way about him. Every time she came, she would talk to and flirt with Sodapop and he would reciprocate. Sure, she spoke to Steve but only a simple 'Hi' or something then she'd revert her attention back to Sodapop.
Today, however, Sodapop couldn't work his shift because he was sick so Steve was manning the store by himself.
At 16:00 on the dot, Steve heard the jingle of the bells that sat on the door which caused his heart to race and his palms to sweat.
"Hey, Steve," Y/N greeted sweetly, showing off her pearly whites.
"Hey, Y/N," he greeted back.
Y/N began looking around the store.
"Where's Soda?" she asked.
Steve felt his smile falter.
"Uh, he's out sick today," he told her.
"Oh," Y/N said disappointedly. "That's fine, I guess. At least I still have you."
Steve's heart skipped a beat.
Y/N left the counter and started walking though the store. She got what she needed and came back with a candy bar, a pack of gum, a slushy and a 'Get Well Soon' card.
"A 'Get Well Soon Card', huh?" Steve questioned while ringing her up.
"Yeah, it's for Soda. I'm gonna give it to him, my poor baby."
"How long have you two been dating?"
The words left Steve's mouth before he could even comprehend them. Once he realized what he asked, he cringed and tried to take it back.
"I'm sorry. I know that's not by place—"
"No, it's no problem at all," Y/N told him. "We aren't dating."
"Oh, really?" Steve asked, trying to hide his smile.
"Yeah, I'm not interested in him like that anyways."
Steve couldn't hide his smile anymore.
"Really?"
Y/N nodded.
"Yeah," she said.
"I just assumed you were because you two are always flirting whenever you come around."
"I wasn't flirting, I was just being nice. And plus, Soda's easier to talk to because between the two of you, he's not the one I have a crush on," she explained.
Steve's face turned a deep shade of red. He was in awe right now and couldn't think of what to say in the moment.
Y/N saw this as the perfect opportunity to leave before things got more awkward than they were right now.
She grabbed her stuff, smiled at Steve and left him there.
"Bye, Steve."
