"So there I was right, sitting in a restaurant I'd never been to before, eating beef stew," Joey began. "But then all of a sudden, this chicken shows up on my table and it quacks at me. I blink once in shock and then the chicken transform into this beautiful lady but the problem is, I can't see her face."

"Well then, how do you know she's beautiful?" Ross asked.

"I don't know. I just did. I had a feeling. What could it mean?" Joey asked.

"Well, I'm being taught how to interpret dreams by my good friend, Inucka Von Weird," Phoebe said. "So, I can help you out."

Everyone else in the gang, except for Joey, rolled their eyes at Phoebe. Joey just leaned in closer and spoke excitedly.

"Yeah, yeah. Go ahead."

"So, you were in a restaurant you'd never been in before, that represents an unknown territory. Then there's the chicken that quacks, that's obviously something strange and unexpected. And finally the beautiful lady whose face you can't see, is obviously a euphemism for something that you deeply long to have but can't because something is holding you back," Phoebe explained.

Everyone looked at her in shock and she smiled back at them.

"What?"

TIME SKIP

Joey was currently on a subway train headed home, after a failed audition. He just kept wondering where he went wrong and what he could've done to actually get the part. In fact, he was so caught up in his thoughts that he didn't notice he missed his stop.

The moment the train stopped so did Joey's thoughts. By the time that he left the subway and stepped onto the pavement, it was too late. He was in Queens.

an unknown territory

It's not like Joey had never been to Queens before, he just wasn't really used to it and preferred to stay on his side of New York.

Not knowing what else to do, he went to the nearest hot dog cart, which was a few blocks away.

"Thanks man," Joey thanked the man in front of him.

"Come on, Remi, it's not that far away," Joey heard a female voice say.

The voice seemed so unfamiliar yet familiar at the same time. Like he'd heard before but he didn't know from where.

something strange and unexpected

He turned to face the woman and the air immediately left his lungs.

She was gorgeous.

Joey couldn't stop looking at her face. Actually, he was so focused on her face that he didn't notice the wedding ring on her finger or her big, protruding belly that looked just about ready to pop.

"Remi, don't hang up on... and he hung up me," the lady said.

"Excuse me, miss?" Joey asked her.

She turned to him with an annoyed look but almost had to do a double take with how good looking the man in front of her was.

"Y-yeah?" she asked back.

"I couldn't help but notice how mad you sounded over the phone."

"Yeah, I was talking to my husband, Remi. He said he couldn't drop me off at my doctor's appointment for our baby's ultrasound. Stupid bastard," she muttered the last thing quietly.

"I can take you," Joey offered.

The woman in front of him was shocked.

'Why would he want to help me out? I'm a stranger,' she thought to herself.

"Um, okay," she nodded. "Where's your car?"

"I don't have one. We can take a cab."

'Oh, this just keeps getting better and better,' she thought with an eye roll.

"Y/N Y/L/N?" a nurse read out.

"Here," Y/N said.

"Dr. Paul will see you now."

Y/N took in a deep breath and turned to Joey with a nervous smile.

"No matter how many times I come here, it will never get less nerve-wracking," she sighed. "Wanna come with me?"

"Really? You want me to come with you?" Joey asked.

"I mean, yeah. Why not? You're not exactly a stranger anymore are you?"

During the cab ride, Y/N and Joey got to talking. They discovered that they have quite a few things in common and just as many differences. It's like they were the same person but, not. They connected.

"Um, sure," Joey answered happily.

IN THE DOCTOR'S OFFICE

"I can't believe Remi didn't show up," Claire, the doctor currently rubbing gel on Y/N's belly, said.

"I can," Y/N stated disappointedly.

Claire gently smiled and squeezed her hand.

"Hey, it's okay. You ready to see your baby?"

Y/N nodded and, for some reason, Joey did too. Then, he had to sadly remind himself that the woman in front of him was not his wife and the baby she was carrying was not his baby and for some reason, that hurt him.

something that you deeply long to have but can't because something is holding you back

He was broken out of his thoughts by a gasp.

He looked and Y/N with tears in her eyes. She reached over and held his hand.

When Joey saw the screen, he understood her happiness. There, in front of them, was the baby.

"This never stops being amazing," Y/N said with tears in her eyes.

Claire smiled gently before wiping the jelly off of Y/N's belly.

"I'll be right back with the ultrasound pictures," she said as she walked out.

"Hey, you okay?" Joey asked.

Y/N nodded softly.

"Yeah," she whispered. "It's just..."

A few more tears fell out.

"Sorry."

Joey stood up and leaned over to wipe away her tears.

"It's okay. Don't apologize," he said.

It was then that the two realized how close their faces were to each other. The moment that they did, they both started leaning in closely.

The kiss was... special. For Y/N, it was because the last time she had been kissed was the night that her baby was conceived and to Joey, it was because when he kissed her he could see their whole future flash before his eyes. A house in a nice neighborhood, two kids and a dog. It seemed so simple but perfect.

When they pulled away they stared into each other's eyes and smiled.

"Wow."
