The small crowd in front of you cheered when you stepped onto the bar's stage. It was your first time performing in front of a crowd but you needed a way to release all these emotions you were feeling.
"Hi, everyone," you greeted sheepishly. "I'm Y/N Y/L/N and I'll be singing tonight. Have any of you ever watched Steven Universe?"
Some people cheered while others simply mumbled.
"Well, I'll be singing a song from there but with a few tweaked lyrics."
You gestured for the MC to play the music and he did.
"I was fine with the girls
That would constantly enter his world
I was fine 'cause I knew
That they didn't really matter until you," you sang which earned a few whoops and claps from the audience. You didn't care much for their reaction. The music and how you were feeling was all you could focus on.
"I was fine when you came
And we fought like it was all some silly game
Over him, who he'd choose
After all these years, I never thought I'd lose
It's over isn't it
Isn't it
Isn't it over
It's over isn't it
Isn't it
Isn't it over?
You won and he chose you
And he loved you and he's gone
It's over isn't it, why can't I move on?"By this point, all the memories and moments you ever shared with Percy were playing through your mind causing you to sound more emotional as you went on.
"War and glory, reinvention
Monsters, freedom, his attention
Out in daylight, my potential
Bold, precise, experimental
Who am I now in this world without him?
Petty and dull, with the nerve to doubt him
What does it matter? It's already done
Now, I have to be there for his son!"You absolutely loved Charlie, no doubt about that. I mean, how could you not? He's Percy's son and your godson but you don't love how he could've been yours and Percy's son had he not fallen in love with Annabeth instead. It was many years ago and yet, here you were singing a song about your unrequited love in a bar, in front of strangers.
"It's over isn't it
Isn't it
Isn't it over
It's over isn't it
Isn't it
Isn't it over
You won and he chose you
And he loved you and he's gone!" you belted with tears streaming down your face, causing the audience to cheer loudly for you.You took a moment to gather your feelings then finish the song.
"It's over isn't it
Why can't I move on
It's over isn't
Why can't I move on?"Once you were done, you looked out into the audience and despite your blurry vision, you were able to spot a familiar face; Annabeth's. She got up and left and you immediately ran after her, not even having time to take a bow.
"Annabeth!" you called out. "Annabeth, wait, please!"
Hearing your pleads, she stopped in her tracks.
"Can you please look at me."
She slowly turned around and you were met with her heartbroken expression.
"I can explain—"
"How long?" she asked.
"What?" you asked.
"How long were you in love with Percy for?" she elaborated.
"Since we were sixteen. When he went missing, I was terrified and at first, I thought it was because he was my best friend but I later realised that it was because I was in love with him. I never said anything because he was with you and you were equally distressed at the time so it didn't feel right," you explained.
"So throughout all of our battles since we were sixteen, mine and Percy's relationship, our marriage and the birth of our son, you've been in love with him? And you didn't say anything?"
"How?" you questioned. "How would I have done that? You two were my best friends and you both seemed so happy with each other. I couldn't wreck that so I stuffed my emotions down and hoped they'd go away."
"That's not how emotions work!" Annabeth scolded.
"I know that! Trust me, I know," you cried. "The day that he died, I was going to tell him how I felt so I could get closure and finally move on but I backed out at the last minute and I've regretted it ever since."
"You shouldn't have kept something like this from me, Y/N," Annabeth said.
"I know and I'm sorry. I really am but I can't help how I feel."
You took a deep breath.
"I think I'm gonna have to distance myself from everything right now. Maybe go back to Camp Half-Blood and try to move on but I just can't be here with you and Charlie and everything."
Annabeth nodded sadly and wiped away a few stray tears from her face. You turned to leave but before you got too far away, you heard Annabeth say;
"I hope you'll finally be able to move on, Y/N."
