You couldn't stop laughing. Ryan just told you a joke and was laughing too. Everyone in the diner was looking at you two like you were insane but you didn't care.

"You're so funny, Ryan," you laughed. "I love spending time with you, dude."

Ryan's smile fell for a moment but you didn't notice.

"Yeah... dude," he said sadly. "But I didn't just call you over here just to tell you lame jokes."

You noticed he was looking a little nervous so you gave him a smile of reassurance and signalled for him to keep going.

He took a deep breath and began talking.

"Y/N, we've been friends for years and I'm so grateful for all of those years but something in the back of my mind always wanted something more," he said.

He reached over and held both of your hands in his. At first you were confused but when realised what was happening your eyes widened in shock.

"I really, really like you and I was wondering if you wanted to go on a date?" he asked.

You pulled your hands away from his and shook your head.

"Ryan, we're friends. Best friends. I don't want to lose that," you said.

"I know, but you don't have to. We could still be best friends. Just, ones who are dating," he explained.

"Ryan—"

"Y/N, it can work. We can work—"

"I have a boyfriend!" you lied.

"What?" Ryan asked.

"I have a boyfriend and I'm really into him. We could still be friends though," you said.

"Oh my God," he muttered. "Oh my God. You have a boyfriend."

"Yeah, but we can still be friends," you told him.

"No, we can't. I... um.. I have to go."

And with that, he left the diner. You couldn't help but feel guilty. You felt the same way about him but you were worried that your friendship would end if you ever broke up.

A FEW DAYS LATER

You and Ryan still haven't talked and you hated it. Everything reminded him of you. Your house, your car, everything.

Not being able to stand being alone anymore, you drove to Ryan's house. You knocked on the door and waited.

Ryan opened it and almost closed it as soon as he saw you but you stopped him.

"What do you want, Y/N?" he asked coldly.

"I like you too," you said. "Like a lot."

"What about your boyfriend?"

"I don't have a boyfriend. I lied but only because I didn't know what else to do," you admitted.

"You could've told me you felt the same way," Ryan told you.

"Yeah, but I was scared. If we did end up dating it would've been great until we broke up. I didn't want to lose you but I realised that I already did the moment you walked out the diner. The last few days have been horrible and I never want to go through that again. So please forgive me."

Ryan smiled at you then gently placed his lips on yours. You kissed him back almost immediately and smiled when you pulled away.

"Of course."
