It was the day of the party and it was amazing. You had everything done to perfection just to make your little girl happy.
Bouncy house. Check. Chocolate fountain. Check. Candy for days. Check. Anything to keep Ella's mind off of her bummy ass dad, you got it.
She was so happy and you wished you could say you were too but in all honesty, you weren't. You were disappointed, hurt, sad but you were not surprised. Louis had been pulling stunts like this since before Ella was born. It was one of the many reasons you two broke up.
"Mama!" Ella called you.
You walked over to her and bent down to her height.
"Yeah baby?" you asked her.
She put her tiny hand to your ear and whispered in it, "Come dance with me."
You smiled at her and nodded.
You two did every dance you could think of from 'the running man' to 'the dab'. After a while, more kids and parents started joining you two on the dance floor until it got really crowded. You two didn't mind though. In your mind it was still only the two of you as it had been for a really long time.
"Mind if I cut in?" a familiar voice asked.
You froze, immediately recognizing it. You turned around and standing in front of you was Louis.
"Hi, Y/N," he said.
You couldn't even say anything back to him. You were speechless.
Not wanting to cause a scene in front of everyone, you grabbed his hand and pulled him into the house.
"Louis, what are you doing here?" you asked.
"I'm here to spend time with my daughter," he stated as if it were the most obvious thing in the world.
"Wow, your have a daughter?" you sarcastically asked. "What's her name?"
"Y/N—" Louis began.
"Y/N?" you repeated. "How crazy. That's my name too."
You crossed your arms and gave Louis an unamused look after that. He let out a heavy sigh.
"You're mad," he said. "I get it. You have every right to be."
You knew he had more to say so you gestured for him to carry on talking.
"Heather took a raincheck on today 'cause she wanted to go to the spa and Freddie's at his mum's house so—"
"So you decided since you had nothing better to do you could come to my daughter's birthday party," you finished for him.
"Our daughter," he corrected.
"No, my daughter. You lost every right to call her yours a long time ago," you hissed out.
"Y/N, I'm really sorry," you scoffed at that. "I know I haven't been the best father to Ella but I want to change."
"No," you said. "Get out."
"What if she wants to see me?" he asked you.
"She doesn't."
"That's not your decision to make," he told you, getting louder with each word.
You were just about to respond to his stupidity but a tiny voice stopped you.
"Mama?" Ella asked.
She stood in the doorway for a bit before running to you.
"Who's this?" she asked.
"I'm your daddy, sweetheart," Louis said before going towards her but she backed away.
"No," she shook her head. "I don't have a daddy."
You could practically hear Louis's heart shatter but you didn't feel bad, not even a little bit.
"I only have my mama and she only has me," Ella continued. "If I had a daddy, he would be living with us instead of his other baby."
Ella had always been too smart for her age. Her wisdom was well beyond her years and she knew that.
"I don't know you and mama always taught me to never talk to strangers," she finished off then she hugged your leg.
You bent down and picked her up. She hid face in your neck and held onto you as tightly as she could.
"I think your should leave Louis," you said.
He nodded slowly before walking out of the house, defeated. Once the door closed Ella started crying.
You could feel tears of your own start to build up but you couldn't cry. Not now. Not when she needed you. So you didn't, instead you held her like you would never let her go.
