*Avengers: Infinity War*
Today was not going as planned at all.
You and Nat were supposed to wake up early in the morning, have a picnic under the beautiful Wakandan sun, take a walk around the kingdom and then share a delicious lunch where you would've gotten down one knee and asked the love of your life to marry you.
But nope! Some ugly ass, disfigured space grape looking, scrotum for a chin having ass bitch decided that he was going to destroy half of the universe because his soul just does not know peace.
As selfish as it might sound, you still wanted to propose to Nat despite what was going on outside.
Throughout the whole day, you've been trying to find opportunities to try and get Natasha alone so that you could ask her but it just wasn't happening.
You were sitting in Shuri's lab, looking at the engagement ring in your hand. With the way everything was going, you were scare you'd never be able to propose.
"Are you going to sit here like a sad puppy all day or are you going to ask Natasha to marry you?" Shuri asked you, walking into her lab.
"It's not my fault the day I picked just so happened to also be the day that Earth was invaded by aliens... again," you defended.
"All I'm hearing is excuses," Shuri sassed you.
"Excuse me? I'll have you know, young lady that I have tried multiple times to get Nat alone."
"Not hard enough because from where I'm standing, the only one with the ring is still you," she retaliated.
You looked at the ring again and sighed.
"What if it's a sign?" you asked quietly. "What if this is the universe's way of telling me that I'm not supposed to marry her?"
"Then the universe is an idiot," Shuri told you. "Look, Y/N, Natasha loves you and you love her. You do love her, don't you?"
"Of course I do, Shuri," you answered.
"Then why are you still here?" she asked you. "We are about to engage in an intergalactic alien war and its going to be pretty hard for you to run around the battlefield with a ring in your pocket."
"Actually, it's surprisingly light."
"You know what I meant," she deadpanned. "Natasha is your room right now, preparing for the fight of her life. I'm sure she could use her future wife by her side."
You nodded and headed out the lab and towards yours and Nat's shared room.
She was already dressed for the fight and she looked absolutely stunning. You leaned against the doorframe, taking her in.
"I know you're watching me, Y/N," Nat said.
You chuckled walked up to her then wrapped your arms around her waist. She sighed in relief and leaned into your touch.
"You good?" you asked her.
"I don't know," she responded. "I know we've fought aliens before but this feels different. I can't explain it but... it feels like there's a lot more at stake now."
You unwrapped your arms from her waist and sat her down on the bed.
"I'm worried that if we don't win this time, we could lose so much and I'm scared."
"I'm scared too but hey, we can be scared together, alright? I'm gonna be right there by your side the entire time, no matter what. I promise," you told her.
Then you reached your shaking hand into your pocket and held the box.
"In fact," you began before getting down on one knee.
Nat's eyes widened and a small part of you was regretting doing this now but you were already too far gone.
"I promise to always be your side 'til death do us part, if you'll let me," you continued. "Natasha Romanoff, I love you with all my heart and I always have. Will you do me the honor of being my wife?"
Natasha was still speechless and her eyes and mouth were open wide in shock.
Her silence was making you stressed and you honestly contemplated getting up and saying it was a joke. In fact, you almost did before she reached into her pocket, pulled out a box and also got one knee.
"You stole my idea," she laughed with tears of happiness streaming down her face.
"No, you," you laughed along with her.
"Before I answer your question, can you hear mine?" she asked.
"Yeah, of course," you nodded.
"Up until I met you, I wasn't sure I knew what true love was and if I would never find it. But I see now that it does exist because I feel it every single time I think about or even look at you. You're the love of my life, Y/N. My soulmate and I can't imagine the rest of my life without you. Will you marry me?"
"Yes," you cried." Yes, I'll marry you! Will you marry me?"
"Yes!" Nat responded before kissing you.
After pulling away, you placed her ring on her finger and she placed yours on yours.
"You know, other than the alien invasion going on outside, this is the best day ever," you told her and she laughed.
"Yeah, we should probably go join the others."
"Do we have to?" you asked.
"Yes, we do but I promise you, after we win we can start planning the wedding immediately," she promised.
"You pinky swear?" you questioned.
"I pinky swear."
