*The Voice*

I was just enjoying myself at home, chilling on my bed, watching some TV when I heard loud music playing outside.

Being the curious person that I am, I got up and went to the window to see what was going on. I really wish I hadn't because what I saw was Micah, in my front yard, standing next to a speaker, holding a microphone.

I stuck my head out the window and started hollering at him.

"Micah? What are you doing here?!"

He just ignored me and started singing his song, 'Butterflies'.

"Lay down with the memories stuck in my head
Now I pass the days just trying to forget
What can I give when there's nothing left
What can I say when it's all been said," he began.

"Are you insane?" I yelled down at him. "Are you not aware of what's going on in the world right now? We are currently experiencing a pandemic!"

"If could hold you closer, I'd never let you go
I wish I'd never known you, 'cause then I'd be enough
I think I got a problem,' cause I fall in love for fun
I've opened up my heart one too many times, I'm done," he sang.

"My dude, what if you catch the 'Rona? I can't have you dying on my front lawn!"

"Can't trust the butterflies, they lead me on
Promise, it's not my fault
Don't wanna be in love
Can't trust the butterflies, they break my heart
Swear that it's not my fault
They make me fall in love
Can't trust the butterflies, yeah."

"Is this a joke? Am I being Punk'd right now?" I asked myself.

"I wish I was an architect," Micah continued.

"I wish you were wearing a mask!" I responded.

"So I could build a fort and just disconnect
Yeah, yeah, yeah
But even then I'd need a rocket ship
The only way to forget ya
Is in another dimension."

"Bruh, we broke up months ago, why are you here? I watched 'The Voice'. I've already heard this song!"

"If I could hold you closer, I'd never let you go
I wish I'd never known you, 'cause then I'd be enough
I think I got a problem,' cause I fall in love for fun
I've opened up my heart one too many times, I'm done."

"Micah, if you don't get off my lawn, I'ma have to turn the sprinklers, my dude!" I warned him.

He didn't stop singing though. In fact, he just smiled at me and carried on singing his little song.

"Can't trust the butterflies, they lead me on
Promise, it's not my fault
Don't wanna be in love
Can't trust the butterflies, they break my heart
Swear that it's not my fault
They make me fall in love
Can't trust the butterflies, yeah."

"Oh, this blog think I'm playing?" I asked myself. "I ain't playing. Not today."

I switched on my phone and turned on my sprinklers with an app. I kinda hoped that would've been enough to stop Micah but it wasn't. He was still outside, in the sprinklers, singing that damned song.

"Whoa, oh, oh, yeah, yeah
Whoa, oh, oh, yeah, yeah
Ooh, ooh, whoa, whoa
Yeah, yeah, yeah,
Yeah, yeah, yeah, oh."

I went downstairs, finally having had enough of this bull and went onto my front yard, sprinklers still on mind you.

"Micah!" I exclaimed. "Why are you still here?"

"Can't trust the butterflies, they lead me on
Promise, it's not my fault
Don't wanna be in love
Can't trust the butterflies, they break my heart
Swear that it's not my fault
They make me fall in love
Can't trust the butterflies, yeah," he sang, walking closer to me with every single line.

When he finished, we were standing really close to each other. Chest to chest, even.

"Y/N, you give me the butterflies," Micah told me.

"I'm confused, aren't the butterflies —according to your song— a bad thing?" I asked.

"Yes, they are," he answered. "At least I thought they were. When I wrote this song, you were who I was thinking of and I mean that in the best way possible. We broke up because I was scared of getting to close to you. I was scared of falling in love."

"And?" I prompted.

"And?"

"And what about now?" I asked.

"Now, I realize that I can't lay that far control me. I want to be with you, Y/N. You know, if that's okay with you."

"You walked a whole ten blocks from your house to mine, without a mask might I add which puts at risk for Covid, you might have to go get tested now, dragging what I can only assume is a heavy ass speaker just so you can sing me a song and tell me you want to be with me, " I said. "Yeah, that's okay with me, Micah."

He smiled and placed a gentle kiss on my cheek.

"Now get in here so you can do off before you get sick."
