*The Boys*
You were sitting on a rooftop of an abandoned building. Earlier on today, you received a letter from Vought International saying that they had a proposition for you but you had to meet them on this rooftop at quarter past midnight.
You had your headphones on full blast and your legs were swinging off the ledge. You began softly singing along to the song.
"Didn't know what time it was
The lights were off
I leaned back on my radio," you sang.Tired of just sitting down, you got up and started dancing along enthusiastically with a smile on your face.
"There's a Starman waiting in the sky
He'd like to come and meet us
But he thinks he'll blow our minds."You always loved David Bowie and often filled the silent space with his music.
You heard someone land behind you. That's right, you heard them through the full blast. You had superhuman hearing.
Instead of acknowledging the person behind you, you continued dancing without a care.
"You must be—" you cut him off with your hand.
When he kept quiet, you resumed your dancing and singing.
Homelander was slowly getting annoyed. How dare you ignore him? Do you not know who he is? He honestly felt like snapping your spine in half or making your head explode with his heat vision but he couldn't. Vought needed you.
When the song finished, you turned to Homelander with a wide smile on your face.
"As I was saying —" you cut him off again.
"Ground control to Major Tom," you sang. "Ground Control to Major Tom."
Having had enough, Homelander shot a heat vision blast to your headphones. He expected you to scream or run away in terror but all you did was look at him with a raised eyebrow.
"That make you happy?" you asked sarcastically.
Then you pulled out your Air-Pods from your back pockets and just as you were about to put them in your ears Homelander stopped you.
"Enough!" he yelled then he pulled himself together. "Please stop listening to music for the time being."
You put your Air-Pods back in your pocket, paused the music on your phone and crossed your arms.
"Thank you," Homelander said with a fake smile. "We need to talk."
"I'm aware," you said.
"Well, Vought International wants you to join the team. You apparently have incredible powers but nobody knows what they are exactly. If you join us then —"
"You ever heard of 'The Cars'?" you asked him.
"What?" Homelander asked.
"They have this one song. Absolute bop. It's called 'Just What I Needed'. You should really listen to it," you answered.
"Listen, woman," Homelander groaned out, slowly losing his patience. "I don't have time for your games. Do you want to join Vought International or not?"
"I don't mind you coming here
Wasting all my time
'Cause when you're standing oh so near
I kinda lose my mind," you sang with your Air-Pods in your ears.Wait, your Air-Pods? When did you put those in. Homelander looked away from you for like literally two seconds.
You began dancing again but this time you were dancing around John which was literally the breaking point for him.
He grabbed you by your neck and threw you into the air. He smirked at his handiwork but stopped when he realised that you didn't come down after five seconds.
Ten seconds.
Fifteen seconds.
Twenty sec— BOOM!
Someone tackled John to the ground from behind. Feeling slightly dazed, he looked up in a confused state and saw you standing above him with a smirk on your face.
"That wasn't very nice was it?" you asked, playfully.
John picked up the nearest weapon to him —which was a street light— and swung it at you.
The light bent out of shape the moment it hit you and you just stood there, completely unfazed.
"Oh, are you done now?" you asked. "My turn."
You shot red laser beams from your eyes across the abandoned building where Homelander was standing. The building crumpled and fell onto him.
You then grabbed his body from the rubble and flew high into the sky. Your eyes scanned all the buildings in the street with your X-Ray vision to see which one was empty. Once you spotted one, you threw Homelander in it.
You flew into the building and smiled.
"Ok, you know what? That was really unfair. I got two turns," you said. "You can have two turns too."
Homelander got up and glared intensely at you. You were sure that he was going to blast you with his heat vision but instead he swung at you.
You moved out of the way with your superspeed and repeated the movement when he swung at you again.
"That was two turns already but you can carry on. I could do this all day. Literally all day. I cannot get tired at all," you bragged.
Homelander let out a loud yell and tried to swing for you one last time but you moved out of the way and he fell out of the large hole on the side of the building.
He lay there, slightly out of breath with a single bead of sweat going down his face.
"Okay, so this was fun and all but I got places to be," you called out to him. "I guess you kinda were just what I needed."
Then you winked at him and flew away.
While laying down, all John could think about was how he'd just literally met his perfect match.
