You were chilling in the bathtub, holding a wine glass in your hand, with a warm towel over your eyes, a wrap around your hair and 'You're The One' by Elaine on repeat, blasting through every single speaker in your home.
This week was stressful as hell. All your students were acting up in your online class and most of them haven't even been in the video conferences since the beginning of the quarantine.
It was hard enough being a 12th grade teacher when the students were in your class and you could see them but now, this is a whole new territory for you and a difficult one at that.
You heard Joe come into the bathroom but you didn't pay too much mind to it. You felt him sit on the edge of the bathtub and he began messaging your foot.
You let out a sigh of happiness then removed the towel from your eyes.
Joe smiled at you and picked up the bottle next to you.
"Need a refill?" he asked.
You nodded and he topped you up. You took a sip and went back to your relaxed position.
"This is the wine we've been saving for a special occasion. Was this week that bad?" he asked.
You groaned and rolled your eyes.
"Worse," you answered. "Is it wrong to hate someone?"
"Depends on the situation."
"What about a whole classroom of people?" you asked.
Joe just laughed and carried on massaging your foot.
"I mean, I don't even ask for much. I know that these students are under pressure and this is all unfamiliar to them. That's why I all I do is ask them to do assignments and essays and give them two weeks to complete them. Is that good enough for them? No. They just have to take a dump over everything I've done for them," you ranted." And every time we have video conferences, they're all either busy with their own stuff or don't even bother to show up. "
You took another sip of your wine and began rubbing your temples in an attempt to soothe your headache.
"I don't know. Maybe I shouldn't have become a teacher in the first place."
"Hey, don't say that. Your job is one of the most important ones out there. You're doing a service to not only communities but the world. I know it's hard now but when you see them graduate, all thanks to you, then it will all be worth it," Joe said.
You smiled at him and gestured for him to come closer to you. When he did, you gave him a sweet kiss.
"Thank you so much," you told him.
He smiled back.
"No problem."
He then moved on to your shoulders and began rubbing them soothingly. You happily allowed him to and closed your eyes, escaping to a state of absolute relaxation.
He began singing along to the words of the song playing throughout the house. You were about to insult his singing skills but stopped, realising that he's doing this to make you feel better. So instead you just sang along with him.
"But as for me, you're the one in my heart
Time will come
Til the end I'ma always be right by your side."
