"Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on Him, if ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." - John 8:31-32
-Followers of Christ Jesus
A true follower believes in the Word, believes in Jesus because Jesus is the Word.
"In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." -John 1:1
"And the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us..." -John 1:14
Our faith comes from hearing the Word of God (mentioned in Romans 10:17)....that is if we read and listen to God's Word.
We ought to know our Lord...to imitate Him, to have a personal relationship with Him. The only way we can do that is to study and meditate on the Word of God. And if we study and meditate the Word we are setting ourselves in seeking the truth. I believe the truth we so desire in this world full of lies can only be found in God's Word.
"Heaven & earth shall pass away but my Words shall not pass away." -Mark 13:31
You see one important thing about "truth" is that it never change, it stand still. It remains while others fade. Truth!
God's Word are all truths that we need so bad, while living in this world. Meditating/studying God's Word is seeking the truth...seeking Jesus.
Jesus is the way, the truth and the life (John 14:6). And seeking Jesus means going for freedom, unlocking our chains.
-Free from sin... Not free to sin.
Free from sin doesn't mean you are allowed to do what you want to do or say... True freedom is not about that because what ever we do or if we base everything on our own understanding and capabilities... It ends up being short & fallen...that it leads to death. Freedom shouldn't lead to death rather leads to life.
True freedom is insync with God's Spirit & truth...that leads to life everlasting.
Freedom is about being alive. Life is only possible thru God, in His Word...
Our freedom is base on the One, who set us free from our sin.
If we have Jesus in us...which means we have God's Word and truth in us...means we are free. As mentioned in John 8:32, the truth shall make you free.
Jesus has set us free.
With all those things i said, i conclude that, a true follower of Jesus (1) believes in the Word, (2) a truth seeker, (3) one who has freedom/ free being.
I pray we are all those thing, in Jesus' name.
To God be the glory!
