"And when he was in affliction, he besought the Lord his God and humbled himself greatly before the God of his fathers, and prayed unto Him and he was entreated of Him and heard his supplication and brought him again to Jerusalem into his kingdom. Then Manasseh knew that the Lord He was God." -2 Chronicles 33:12-13We are alike Manasseh, the King of Judah. If i must elaborate for he was a sinner, separated from God because of the iniquities he had committed doing evil in the sight of God and leading the people to sin.
Because of his sin, God wrought afflication in Manasseh's life thru the captains of host of the King of Assyria (2 Chronicles 33:11).
But because of that affliction, He was able to know God.
We can definitely learn from Manasseh's experience and if we apply this in our daily lives we are wise to do such... and foolish if we don't. In such trouble times there are actually 2 outcomes we either harden our hearts towards God or humble ourselves to Him, that is to soften up. But only one can save us... the latter one does.In times of trouble, we are to seek God with a humble heart... for God to answer our prayers.
Seek God with a humble heart.
It was effective during Manasseh's time, i believe it will work even in our generation today, aside that our God is merciful and faithful... He is the same yesterday, today and forever. Know that we are serving an unchanging God. He is also close to those broken and humble people... He will certainly hear you because of who He is.
No matter who you are, what you have done/say, or whatever your experience are, they don't matter to God as long as you seek Him with a humble heart... what does it mean to have a humble heart?
The person who has a humble heart is indeed as humble person... it has to start in the heart otherwise he isn't humble to begin with rather pretending to be one. Remember also that God sees the heart.
Humility is not about thinking less of yourself rather thinking of yourself less (i read that statement somewhere). When you humble yourself, you are glorifying God with your life. When you glorify God, you will be satisfied. There is contentment in glorifying God, for the blessing that comes from Him are eternal blessing and so it will satisfy our soul unlike the earthly pleasures that in reality are death-leading way.
As Manasseh humbled himself 'greatly' to God, God heard his prayer and saved him from being captive worst from death from the hands of his enemy.
To be humble before God, the first thing we have to do is, repent.
What happen to Manasseh was that he didn't believe in the God of his fathers but in the end with his renewed mind after he realise God has saved Him, it says, 'Then Manasseh knew that the Lord He was God.'
He then acknowledges the Lord. And so when times get tough acknowledge God and seek Him first with a humble heart. He has solved our greatest problem which is going to hell by giving the world His Son, Jesus... that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life. Do you think he can't solve your earthly struggles when He has already solved our eternal problem? Just get on your knees and pray to Him.
To God be the glory!
