"In this the children of God are manifested, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother." -1 John 3:10A pastor once said, 'There should be a difference between a believer and a non-believer.'
I believe that difference should be manifested to the world...for everyone to see. For them to distinguish the children of God to the children of the devil.
With this verse we see that there are 2 things mentioned that will make His people set apart from other people... Righteousness & Love. And those who don't possess such are children of the devil.
Righteousness. Abraham was considered righteous because of his faith in God. Faith that has works. His faith was tested when God instructed him to offer Isaac his son and He did it and believe in his God, that God will save his son and God did so, when the angel of God spoke to him and told him what God said. A faith without works is dead as stated in the Bible, so to be righteous means someone having a faith that has works fully rooted in the Word of God by God's grace thru Christ Jesus.
Love. God greatest commandment is about loving Him and loving our neighbors...also to love our enemies. Why? With love we cannot hate...with love we don't want to harm/destroy anyone...with love we accept, bear and endure all things... As mentioned in the Scripture love covers multitude of sin. And love saves, hopes & gives even when it hurts. Love breathes out joy, peace, & life. While hate leads to sorrow, misery & sin - that leads to death. With love, God's intention is leading us to life everlasting. That was His plan when He gave us His only Son, Jesus Christ. A love that brought salvation to mankind.
God is righteous & holy. Also God in Himself is love. And if we claim to be His children then we should be like Him in all things...in what we do and in what we say. We should be righteous and always abound in love for God's greater glory!
To God be the glory!
