"If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!" -Luke 11:13
You might be wondering why would God give us the Holy Spirit especially to those new to christianity. It mentioned that, 'If you then... know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit...' The Holy Spirit, God the Holy Spirit is the greatest gift God can ever give us because that same Spirit raise Jesus from the dead.
"If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you." -Romans 8:11
Given that, what does it imply?
We are save. Death can't hold us down, Jesus is the living proof of that. He is risen. We are all scared of death but after what Jesus did He made death void and has given us eternal life. Being saved from death means we are saved from every struggles in life and from all problems because death is our greatest fear and if that is already been taken cared of by Jesus Christ then, nothing can ever bring us down... we will rise up thru Jesus.
God has given us a seal our guarantee (2 Corinthians 1:22). "In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit..." - Ephesians 1:13
The Holy Spirit is our ticket to eternity with God. Indeed that is the greatest gift, and thru the Holy Spirit we are able to call our God- 'Father'. We are His children and He is our Father.
"And because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, "Abba! Father!" -Galatians 4:6
With all those verse I've shared, I pray you have understood why the Holy Spirit. And don't forget to ask God. He only gives to those who asked.
To God be the glory!
