"And when he had gone a little farther thence, he saw James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, who also were in the ship mending their nets. And straightway he called them: and they left their father Zebedee in the ship with the hired servants, and went after him." -Mark 1:19-20
When God calls...
Many things are happening in our life today, we may be as of the moment 'mending our nets'... so busy minding the things of this world, making a living, preparing for a wedding or meeting, getting to college, meeting new friends, creating a blog, maybe you are driving, travelling, buying the dream house, feeding the kids, trying to achieve your ambitions... whatever it is your busy with. No matter what you are doing, no matter who you are, no matter what you've achieve in this life, ...at some point in your life will be worth to nothing... that point is the moment when you hear God calling your name.
As Jesus called James and John, '...straightway he called them: and they left their father Zebedee in the ship with the hired servants, and went after him.' When God calls, you can never look back to who you were before... or else you'll die. Remember Lot's wife, the moment she looked back, she became ashes. Backsliding. It just confirms the statement that they weren't truly save.
"They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have continued with us. But they went out, that it might become plain that they all are not of us." -1 John 2:19
This verse also tells us that God calls His people towards Him, calls those who will serve Him... being a Christian would mean you became one because God called you out of the darkness into the marvellous light that He is. It's a great honour and grace from God to be called His. Jesus said that we didn't choose Him, He chose us (John 15:16).
Hearing God's voice, hearing Him when He calls will make you do the same thing James and John did. Leaving the world, letting go of yourself or anything that keeps you from God. After leaving the world behind, seeing the cross in the process, you will follow Him. You will never stay the same, you will be just like Him, as you journey in this life going after Him.
To God be the glory!
