"And the LORD said unto Joshua, Fear them not: for I have delivered them into thine hand; there shall not a man of them stand before thee." -Joshua 10:8
Many times the Scripture spoke of 'Fear not', in this case the Lord said to not fear 'them' 'your enemies'.
We all have enemies, spiritually speaking, and one of my greatest enemy would be myself, my flesh... as temptation creep in and i sin against my God. Our greatest enemy is not people though that's how satan would want us to see things, i think its not even satan... i mean he will probably start the spark but the question of performing a particular sin is our choice... because you can either choose not to do it or to do it. As Adam and Eve were deceive by satan, but you can't change the fact that Eve wanted it too, the lust of the flesh maybe the thought of becoming a god got to her.
"For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil." -Genesis 3:5
You see we have a choice to choose God or to choose the enemy, satan or we can be that enemy too you know... "There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death." -Proverbs 16:25
"Sometimes 'deliver us from evil..' means deliver us from our own heart and its desires." -Lecrae
In my case, most of the time i would pray to God to deliver me of my flesh... most of the time.
We look so much of the world of the harm and pain, it will give us but i believe we should look at first our reflection, and see if we see Jesus not the devil and surely not ourselves but God himself in us. It should not be me standing in the reflection it should be Jesus and if i ever see myself in the reflection it can only be me, on my knees, 'there shall not a man of them stand before thee.' not even myself... only the Son of Man and the Son of God, Jesus Christ.
For God to deliver our enemies (be it any evil spirit or your flesh) to us, that will make then not able to stand before us is when we humble ourselves unto God. You choose, to fall on your knees unto God and stand tall against your enemies, even better step on them triumphantly or neglecting God and be killed. Because in every battle it is either to kill the enemy or be killed by the enemy. Kill sin or else sin will kill you (said by John Piper). The wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23). Kill your flesh, the lust of flesh and surely The Spirit of the Lord will dwell in you and you shall live.
"For if you live according to the flesh you will die, but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live." -Romans 8:13
Do not fear to kill the works of the flesh in you, because the only way Jesus can live in you is if you die daily as Paul would say it in 1 Corinthians 15:31, not in the physical sense but rather in the spirit. So take up your cross and follow Jesus that is the only way for us to live a life glorifying God and living up to the purpose He has for us. This is not in a way giving up our identity rather it is pursuing our identity. We are not who we say we are for we are fallen creatures, God's knows who we are because He is our Creator. He knows us more than we know ourselves. Do not fear just have faith.
Faith is our greatest weapon against fear. It will make fear void and useless. You fear because you don't know what will happen or what it is ahead because you haven't seen... but faith,
"Faith is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen; it gives us assurance about things we cannot see." -Hebrews 11:1
Let your faith works when fear starts to creep in. Pray to God and know that HE is under control.
Accept that though you are imperfect, fallen and unworthy and believe that Jesus died for you to save you from your imperfections from your sins to change your life... You can't change yourself Jesus will do it for you thru the Holy Spirit by God's abundant grace in your life. Rely on Him and choose Him in every decision. Just do the work He asked you to do in His Word and God will do the rest, the impossible things.
To God be the glory!
