"John answered and said, A man can receive nothing, except it be given him from heaven." -John 3:27That line, 'A man can receive nothing EXCEPT it be given him from heaven' , declares God's supremacy over all things. You wouldn't get it if He didn't allow it or if He didn't give it to you, whatever that thing would be.
God's supremacy is a given fact base on 2 truths.
One. He created all things, the heaven, the earth, the universe, man, angels,... for without Him nothing was ever made. Actually this truth alone can stand while others be put down, ...and would make us conclude we don't need the second truth for the first truth gives it al the reason why He is supreme. But just for the sake allow me.
"All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made." -John 1:3
"For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him." -Colossians 1:16
Two. He is in control of all.
"He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together...." -Colossians 1:17
He hold things together and without Him holding on it, i believe it will fall... and He has the first and last say,
One day when Jesus decided to go to the other side and so they rode the boat and there was a storm during their travel on boat, the disciple was sore afraid,
"He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, "Quiet! Be still!" Then the wind died down and it was completely calm." -Mark 4:39
Also Satan asking a permission to God to cause harm against Job,
"But put forth Your hand now and touch all that he has; he will surely curse You to Your face." Then the LORD said to Satan, "Behold, all that he has is in your power, only do not put forth your hand on him." So Satan departed from the presence of the LORD." -Job 1:11-12
He is aware of everything. And He has the final say to what should be done, given and overcome. He just have to say it and it is done, like how He said in the beginning 'Let there be light and there was light' (Genesis 1:3).
You might ask, knowing that God wants the best for us, then why does He have to allow pain and suffering in my life. He makes a man rich and the other poor. He has allowed one to be evil and the other saved. He made one blind and one cripple and the other normal. Whatever the case may be, its all for His greater glory!
Whatever you receive from God, it may seem good or bad, remember to be always be grateful to God... Because we know that all things work together for the good to them that love God, to those who are called according to their calling (Romans 8:28). To Christians the suffering that God has allowed in our lives, the things we receive are all for the good, because whatever suffering it is it cannot be compared with what God has prepared for us that is heaven to those who will endure.
"As He passed by, He saw a man blind from birth. And His disciples asked Him, "Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he would be born blind?" Jesus answered, "It was neither that this man sinned, nor his parents; but it was so that the works of God might be displayed in him..." -John 9:2-3
'but it was so that the works of God might be displayed in him...'
So, whatever we have experience, possess, suffer... it is for that the works of God might be displayed in us... Know that it is an honor to be used by God that His works might be made manifest to the world thru us.
That is why we Christian are to rejoice in everything for the world to see Him, to see our God. The world will wonder how can we be joyful in the midst of suffering and struggles, how can we be in peace during a war, how can we love the unlovable, how can we forgive the unforgivable acts inflicted on us... how? The answer is by God's grace. He strengthen us, He will inspire us, He will encourage us, He will push us that we are able to do good works... His grace will not by our strength rather His.
And so appreciate the things He has given you and will be given..., no matter what it is... it is meant for the good, even if you don't understand Him, just trust Him... faith works that way.
To God be the glory!
