"And going on from thence, He saw two brethren, James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, in a ship with zebedee their father, mending their nets; and He called them. And they immediately left the ship and their father and followed him." -Matthew 4:21-22
This verse speaks of what people would do if truly they have encountered Jesus with all their hearts. How James & John followed Jesus after He called them...He just called them and they obeyed His voice.
This verse testify (1) that indeed Jesus is Lord, (2) also when you are confronted by the truth you just can't turn you back on it, & (3) you would deny yourself & acknowledge God.
(1) If Jesus wasn't Lord they wouldn't have stopped what they were doing and they wouldn't have listen to Him. Clearly He has authority and is Lord over all.
(2) You can never change the truth. It will remain forever when all else fade... The Word of God is nothing but truth. As Mark 13:31 mentioned, Heaven & earth will fade but my Words will never fade.
(3) Denying yourself & acknowledging God. As a christian this is one thing we do or we'll do if we call ourselves follower of Christ.
In this verse we see James & John making a living/mending their nets with their father but as soon as Jesus spoke and told them to follow them without saying anything they followed Him. They stopped doing what they did and just followed Him without questions. That alone is an act of denying oneself and acknowledging Jesus. That right there is a work of faith without a doubt.
How many of us has done such act? Just to completely follow Jesus without questions & murmuring.
If we have truly encountered God in our lives today, i believe all will move with zeal & joy proclaiming God's wonders & in how He has saved our souls. And just to follow Him, not just in where He goes but in who He is...that is to imitate Him, & be like Jesus in this dark world.
To God be the glory!
