"And they stoned Stephen, calling upon God, and saying, Lord God receive my spirit. And he kneeled down, and cried with a loud voice, Lord, lay not this sin to their charge. And when he had said this, he fell asleep." -Acts 7:59-60
We all know Stephen died. Physically speaking. But i like how the Scripture wrote, 'he fell asleep'. Because when we talk about death... its not going to happen to us, being Christian for our God promises us an everlasting life and we know Jesus has defeated death on the third day He rose again, and so the word 'asleep / sleep'.
To those who believed on the one who died for them to live, they will soon sleep and will wake to a life, everlasting life with their Creator and Father, and with Jesus Christ. And that is only possible with faith.
Life on earth is about holding unto something we trust, we hope and we love. I say, if it is not God it is no good... it will lead to our destruction- death and by death i mean eternal suffering- hell. But if we hold on unto God, that is trusting Him, hoping in Him and loving him... I say, nothing and i mean nothing can ever go wrong. Though people around you, those you know and not know might throw stones at you- mock you, insult you, harm you, or even kill you don't give up your salvation because of them. Don't allow satan to steal your joy, your life, your peace and your love, that is his main purpose. Instead in times of trouble worship God, & praise Him. In that way God will work in your life, by pleasing Him with your works of faith.
Three things Stephen did here, his work of faith:
One. Be prepare to die for Christ sake.
Two. Praise and worship God in times of tribulation.
Three. Forgive people even if they didn't ask for it & lead to God to forgive them. Just as Christ forgave us.
May we glorify God in the same way Stephen glorified God. Glorify God with your life.
To God be the glory!
