"I love the Lord, because He hears My voice and my supplications. Because He has inclined His ear to me, Therefore I shall call upon Him as long as I live. The cords of death encompassed me and the terrors of Sheol came upon me; I found distress and sorrow. Then I called upon the name of the Lord: "O Lord, I beseech You, save my life!"" -Psalms 116:1-4

God rescues us from death

Everyday death tries to get a hold of us through the distractions the devil has presented to us in the world we live in for he is the chief commander of this world and he wants our end to be death, that is we get to spend eternity in hell our second death. But to God be the glory for His graciousness and mercy overflows because He has saved us from our downfall thru His Son Jesus Christ.

The Psalmist was so thankful to God and he declared how he loves God because of what the Lord has done for Him. We can only be able to do such act, loving God and be grateful to Him if we have truly understood what He has done for us. Being a Christian, means we have understood what we believe in, what Jesus did on the cross, why He did it and what drives Him to do it... How He did save us in a bloody way. For us to fully praise God with our lives and in our lives only when we come to understand what we believe.

The Psalmist know what God has done in His life, how the Lord saved Him the moment he believed in God, because calling out to God for help is clearly works of faith, you cannot call upon God if you don't believe in Him. And we can only be save if we call upon the name of our God, The Lord only works when we have faith in Him. He has delivered/rescued us from death surely no matter what situation you are in today, God will deliver you no matter what as long as you call upon Him.
