"And David enquired at the Lord, saying, Shall I pursue after this troop? shall I overtake them? And he answered him, Pursue: for thou shalt surely overtake them, and without fail recover all." -1 Samuel 30:8

Victory is only possible if we go to God first.

Two things are being mentioned here regarding what King David did that made him victorious in his battle.

First. Seek God.

Before we face our battles in life, we need to go to God first. Pray to Him & rely on Him.

In the same way David did in this verse during one of the darkest moment of his life, he asked God... He was asking permission about his decision, 'shall i pursue?' 'shall i?'

As christian that act should be a priority in our lives, to inquire at the Lord... of what He thinks about what our plans are... or in anything & everything we want to do in this life... We claim to have this 'relationship' with God thru Jesus Christ & yet we are not open with Him with the very detail of our life.

When we are in a relationship, being open to each other about everything is a priority, right? That's just being true, no secrecy only the truth. Though God knows everything, but it's still great to hear it from the person you love. Have you been in a situation where you have found something about your loved one, something he/she hasn't told you yet, and you haven't told him/her just yet because you want to hear it straight from that person? You would feel betrayed, right? I would. But waiting for that person to confess to you, is a way of showing your love (I have to say. :))

Well, my point is that since we are in a relationship with God we should be open to Him about everything in this life. We should be able to ask & tell Him about all our worries, insecurities, struggles & fears in this life because it is only thru opening up/telling Him that He is able to respond to you. How can He answer you if you didn't ask? To ask God requires faith in Him for without faith it is impossible for Him to answer your prayer. Talk to Him. Talk to God about your plans & He will instruct you of the things you will do, if you seek Him first.

Second. Listen to God.

If you have truly seek Him with all your heart, He will answer for sure. And this is where the second point enters- listen to God, Listening to God means we have comprehend what He spoke. And if we have understood, it means we will do it. Setting our mind to do the things God has told us to do. To listen is really important, as there were cases in the Bible where in the people of God during Jeremiah's time (Jeremiah 42) that they didn't hearken into the Lord & so Jeremiah prophecy destruction unto them (Jeremiah 42: 21-22).

We should obey God or otherwise we will have to pay the consequences of our actions. God's plan for us is for our good & if we don't go through the way He has prepared for us then be prepared to go unto destruction, worst death for only God can give life, life everlasting in the way He has prepared for us, and that way is Jesus Christ.

This two points should go together, if you don't seek/pray to God how can he respond to you & if you don't obey what He has told you to do then there's no point at all... All will become vain. Your faith has been vain.

Victory is only achieve if we have God in us- His way, His truth & His life.

"But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ." -1 Corinthians 15:57
