"Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God even our Father, which had loved us and hath given us everlasting consolation and good hope thru grace, comfort your hearts, and stablish you in every good word and work." -2 Thessalonians 2: 16-17

It's not easy to live in this world. God knows that as well, for He was the one to warn us that in this world you will have tribulation (John 16:33). He also mentioned that the world will hate you because it hates Him.
But you know what He promised, He promises to never leave us nor forsake us, that we should rejoice for He has overcome the world and that thru our faith we will overcome just about anything. We can be assured that we are victorious because He has risen... that is our hope. The Word of God has and will comfort us in times of calamities and trials that Word of God is Jesus Christ Himself. And we are so blessed that God's comfort lead us unto our salvation. His comfort is not only in words but in works as well and giving us Jesus is His way of comforting us in deeds... for He died in order to save us that is the greatest comfort anyone could ever give us, His life.
Aside from that He will not only guide us but He will also stablish every good word and works in our lives... it is not by our own efforts that we can do such... only by His grace and in Him alone we can do such things that our works can only we considered good only if we have faith in Him for no one is good except God. Having faith in God means doing His will and command in our lives by living out our faith we can be good, not by our own effort but by God grace we can do such. He stablishes our works and word for our salvation. Good works and words are manifestation that we are saved. Since the world can't see the seal which God has given us the Holy Spirit, but they can see our good works and words that will tell them who we are, we are children of God... this will ultimately give God the glory He truly deserves.
This verse is reminding us that:
One. In this harsh world only God can comfort us. No one else but Him. And His comfort will renew our strength and will sustain us for the rest of our lives here on earth.
Two. Good words and works are only possible thru our faith in Him... because apart from Him we can't do good things in this life. No one is good except God. We can only imitate His ways if we believe in Him.
Why is He doing these things? These are for our salvation and its His way of showing His love towards us... He loves us for He is love.
