"But i say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you..." -Matthew 5:44'Love your enemies.' God says. This is not a request but a command to love your enemies. Without a doubt this is a challenge for us, Christians, if we look at it in a worldly perspective, this is so hard to do... I mean how could you love those people who has inflicted you with nothing but pain. To insult/bully you seems to be where their happiness lies. Where would you start? When you get to see them you are reminded of the pain they gave you, physically or emotionally speaking... Where would you start?
It'll be hard that's for sure... But as a christian we are reminded everyday about Jesus and we desire to be like Him... So we have decided to follow Him...with that being said let our focus be in Him and in Him alone in order for us to fulfill God's command...because in Him nothing is impossible and thru Him we can do all things because He's the one that gives us strength to do anything including loving our enemies for sure.
When we became a true christian we decided to let go of ourselves and let God work in our lives and in making us a new creation thru Christ Jesus. And to be new in Jesus is to be renewed in our minds- to think like Jesus.
When Jesus was persecuted and to be crucified, He didn't curse, or got mad at those people beating Him and nailing Him on the cross rather He prayed for them saying to God the Father to forgive those people because truly they don't know what they are doing... He was pleading to God the Father to forgive His enemies because He knows what His Father is capable of doing... God's wrath will be upon them for sure.May we see God's light in this dark world and strive to be like our Lord & Saviour, even if its going to be hard... That's the challenge for us followers of Christ. In the same way Jesus forgave us and prayed for us to be save... We must do the same to our enemies because for once we were enemies of God during the time we were filled with sin but Jesus fought for us and died for us to cleanse us from the sins that will drag us to hell and He has offered a place in heaven for us with Him. To forgive as Christ has forgiven us.
Also remember that we can never overcome evil with evil... If we do that then i don't think there's a difference between a believer and a nonbeliever... By calling yourself christian, you're just giving God shame instead of glory... The only way we can overcome evil, mentioned in Romans, is by doing good...it doesn't matter what they do, what matters most is that, is God getting all the glory in everything that you do? By loving our enemies despite their wicked plans against you, you are glorifying God and performing your task as a light and salt in this world for Jesus Christ.
Let me just tell you that pride has no place here. You should let humility take over...pride corrupts our good values, the values the God has taught us and so be careful. Don't let the devil get to you rather focus on Jesus and imitate Him. Rest assured with God all is well even if its not okay, even if it hurts, just endure it because surely you will be rewarded in God's time. Be patient & have faith.
I read a saying that goes, 'You are not doing good works to be save...rather, you are doing good works because you are save.'
Please keep that in mind.To God be the glory!
