"Though they dig into hell, thence shall mine hand take them; though they climb up to heaven, thence will I bring them down:" -Amos 9:2
Does this verse scare you?
This just show that no matter what we do on our own, it is vain. It is useless if and only if God is not involved in it. It doesn't matter how hard you strive to do good things for others, do charity works, give your tithes & offering, going to church, being kind to others- those things will be vain if you don't have faith in God. Those acts will not get you to heaven your faith will.
Knowing that God has a power to bring up & bring low, we must therefore try to please Him with our life. We must exert an effort to make things in our favour, right? for us to dwell in heaven and not in hell. And pleasing God requires faith,
"But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him." -Hebrews 11:6
Faith is so important for us. It is our ticket to heaven & without it, it is impossible to enter into life everlasting.
In order for us to have faith, we are to hear God's Word because faith comes from hearing the Word of God (Romans 10:17). That Word of God is Jesus Christ,
"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us..." -John 1:1 & 14
We have to have Jesus in our lives in order for us to please God. An addition to what i said earlier that we are not saved by doing good works alone rather by faith but the faith that saves is a living faith that is a faith with works.
"And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him." -Colossians 3:17
So we must be sure to do things in this world to give God the glory & honour He deserve through His Son, Jesus Christ- our Lord & Saviour that is what a faith with works mean. Because if you won't act out your faith, it's a faith that leads to nothing but eternal damnation.
To God be the glory!
