"For the Word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God." -1 Corinthians 1:18 ESV
The Word of the cross is power of God to those who are saved.
The story of the cross to the believers are hope, love and grace beyond measure. How the Son of God died in our stead to offer us eternal life. God has given us an option to have life when we all deserve death. Jesus' death, the preaching of the cross is one of the central part of Christianity and the 2nd is His resurrection... because it was thru His blood we were cleanse from all our sins.
Those who are saved thru faith, not because of their works rather by God's grace. Grace is both a pardon & power... that power has enable men to be saved, the power of God thru His Word.
A saved person bears good fruit or good works as a manifestation that they are saved. Faith without works is dead, that is how important works is... i know, i know... i did mentioned that we are not saved by works rather by faith... but the thing is that the works or good works that I'm implying is the fruit of the Spirit of God, who dwells in us, the seal of God we receive thru our faith in Jesus Christ. You can also say that what enables us to do good works is because of our faith in Him. But how can we have faith for us to do good works? Romans 10:17 says, faith comes from hearing the Word of God. So, i have to say that what urges us to do good works then is the Word of God.The preaching of the cross or the Word of the cross, as i mentioned, is part of the Word of God, the gospel of Christ... Christianity would not exist today, if Jesus didn't died. Why not make it the Word of God instead of the Word of the cross? Why do you think? Mainly because Christianity revolves around Jesus, His death and resurrection... and if He hadn't died His resurrection wouldn't happen. Jesus death hold a high importance in God message of love, life and grace for the world. The core of God's power is right there... He moves and works in the lives to those who believes in His Word, in Jesus Christ, in God.
There's a truth mentioned in the Scriptures that the Word of God is God Himself (John 1:1). And so what really enables us to do good works is... God. Good works, the fruits of the Spirit, sets us apart from the world, they are manifestation that we are saved.
We become a new man by God's grace bearing good works thru the Spirit of God. Indeed it is the power of God that works thru us because we can never change ourselves... it is God who does all the work, not us because He is the driving force in our lives pushing us to be like Christ, we just do the light work, believe.
Our salvation is in the Lord, not on ourselves and not on anyone but Jesus. Those save are indeed wise to have thought of their eternity while those perishing are foolish to have thought of the Word of the cross to be folly... for their end is in hell. But i believe those foolish people can still have a chance of the salvation God has offered, because it is for everyone and i am one of those foolish people before. Just repent and believe in Jesus Christ, who died for you on the cross.
To God be the glory!
