In the beginning when God created the Garden of Eden He put in a tree of good and evil. He told Adam and Eve if they are from it they would die. They were tricked by Satan, sinned, and ate the apple. They died spiritually and had to leave the Garden because they were no longer perfect and would ruin the rest of the Garden. Out in the world evil grew and thousands of years later Jesus died to forgive us and make us clean again so we could go back Home. The world is full of a lot of suffering still and it seems like it would be a lot better if sin never came into the world. Leaving the question why did God but the tree in the Garden in the first place?
On the surface it would be a lot simpler if God never gave us the option to sin. We would be happily chilling in the Garden without a worry. However God loved us and He wanted us to love Him back. Love can't be forced out of someone and you can't love unless you have a choice to not love them. So God gave us a choice, He made sure we weren't robots and could decide and do things on our own. He made the tree so that we would have a choice to leave Him and the life He created. And Eve and Adam took it and now we have to choose to go back to God. Every step of the way is a struggle but it's not one you have to fight alone.
