When a woman caught cheating on her husband is dragged before Jesus everyone watches Him to see what He will do. The woman's punishment should've been death by stoning, which is everyone throwing stone at you until you die, Jesus looked down at the woman thrown at His feet and then to the crowd around them and says, "Who ever hasn't sinned may throw the first stone." Everyone looked at each other and eventually the accusers left because they weren't innocent. Jesus asks the woman were her accusers went she replied gone. Then I imagine He offered her hand to pull her off the floor and He said, "Neither do I accuse you, go your way and sin no more."
He forgave her because God is forgiving not because she deserved it but because He loved her. I guarantee the woman didn't come back the next day to Jesus and say, "I don't think you really meant it please forgive me again." Yet so many times I go and ask for forgiveness day after when God already forgave me and put it away. You need to trust that God forgave you and work to forgive yourself as well, if you hurt someone else apologize to them so that you can be free of the guilt. The person may forgive and that's awesome but it's more about freeing you from the chains of sin.
